Purpose and General Description:

NCC is looking for a passionate person to join the Saskatchewan stewardship team as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Intern. Working closely with NCC’s Conservation Science and Planning Manager, the GIS Intern will be responsible for assisting with the delivery of all regional spatial database management and support services through the 2025 field season. Additionally, the GIS Intern will assist with data management within NCC’s internal Land Resource Manager database. The GIS Intern may be required to work directly with other Conservation and Stewardship department team members, as well as partner organizations and volunteers. This position is intended to provide an inspiring, learning-focused environment for a junior professional.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will support Conservation Science staff with:
- Updating the NCC Land Resource Manager (LRM) with new and existing conservation project information
- Performing quality assurance/quality control of data
- Assisting the Regional Conservation, Development, Communications, and Management teams with mapping, data management, and other information needs as required
- Compiling data from partners and organizing data submissions to partner organizations.
- Providing the summer Stewardship field staff with LRM, GIS and GPS support as needed
- Performing data queries for reporting purposes.
- Assisting with Stewardship or Engagement related fieldwork as needed
- The management of new and existing spatial data.
- Assisting with the production of various map products and spatial datasets, as needed.
- Working closely with other staff to coordinate data integration of historical data sources or incompatible formats
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills and Attributes:
This posting is targeted to individuals possessing the following skills and traits:
- Database use and management experience, including data entry
- Strong working knowledge of other common software applications (e.g., Word, Access, Excel)
- Knowledge of data quality standards and the ability to identify and address data quality issues
- Experience with ArcGIS desktop software that includes but is not limited to:
- Managing, maintaining, and editing spatial datasets
- Producing maps and/or other graphic products and reports
- Analyzing spatial data with geoprocessing tools.
- Experience with ArcGIS Online tools including Field Maps and Survey 123 considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of GPS technology and familiarity with field data collection methods
- A strong ability to manage timelines and expectations independently, while delivering quality results
- Ability to communicate clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means
- Work experience or education in biology, ecology, or conservation considered an asset
- Ability to manage highly confidential material

- Excellent attention to detail, and ability to stay motivated and focused on repetitive tasks
- Positive attitude, and an ability to embrace challenges and solve problems creatively
Terms of Employment:
- Subject to funding, this is a 16-week position from May 5, 2025, until August 25, 2025;
- Compensation: $18/hour;
- The position is based out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
