The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary

NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant in the Nature program in our Washington DC or San Francisco office. The Program Assistant will support the Land and Dirty Energy team as a scheduler, administrative assistant, research assistant, correspondence and social media writer, internal coordinator, and front-line interface to external parties, including with coalition groups and congressional offices.
Responsibilities:
  • Managing the calendars of several individuals
  • Providing administrative support to the Dirty Energy Team, such as coordinating travel arrangements; processing contracts, invoices, and reimbursements; tracking budgeted expenses
  • Providing basic research and writing support
  • Writing, editing, and proofreading policy documents, external correspondences, and social media
  • Facilitating, coordinating, and supporting follow-ups to internal or external meetings
  • Executing special projects as they come up
Qualifications:
  • Strong preference for having at least one year of full-time professional or related experience working with either: Congress, the executive branch, or an advocacy organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; professional demeanor and presentation
  • Superior personal organization, time management and multi-tasking ability
  • Good judgment; attention to details; follows instruction well; can-do attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure and be adaptable
  • Experience in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. For this position, the salary $50,000 to $55,000.

Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be associated with one of our offices, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support NRDCers with remote working arrangements.
