NRDC is seeking a Program Assistant to work with the International and People and Communities programs in our Washington, D.C. office.
Position Summary
The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to the International Program’s Global Strategies Division, whose work covers international climate advocacy including through multilateral negotiations as well as efforts aimed to reduce carbon emissions in key countries and sectors. The individual in this position will provide administrative and logistical support to assist the programs’ advocacy efforts.
Responsibilities: - Providing general administrative and logistical support to policy and scientific staff across multiple offices.
- Budgeting and accounting support including processing invoices and monthly expenses, tracking budgets, and maintaining contracts and financial records.
- Work with internal subject matter experts to coordinate grant proposals, renewals, and report submissions.
- Managing and maintaining paper and electronic filing systems and databases.
- Scheduling and organizing large meetings, assisting with event planning and management, which may require working with external parties.
- Proofreading, formatting, and helping prepare and track legal documents, advocacy letters, reports, fact sheets, and other project materials.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Required
- Commitment to NRDC’s mission and values.
- 1-2 years entry level experience with administrative, expense, accounting, organizational, and basic research skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team setting, managing multiple priorities and projects, and navigating a dynamic work environment
- Ability to work independently, efficiently, and accurately under deadlines
- Proactive and detail-oriented problem solver with excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with professional software tools such as Microsoft Office, including Outlook and Excel.
- Desire to contribute to the work of dynamic teams and pitch-in to take on discrete tasks when required
- Interest in social justice and environmental issues
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of and competency in equity and inclusion, including contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Preferred
- Experience with budgeting, accounting, and finance systems
- Professional level fluency in a second language a plus
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Strong project management skills a plus
