Position Summary

NRDC is seeking an experienced Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Learning Lead to partner in the design and execution of an enterprise-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion learning strategy and program.

NRDC is looking for a Lead of DEI Learning to increase DEI awareness through education, applied learning, mentoring, and coaching.

This person will build DEI training curriculum, materials, and learning experiences that change behaviors and mindsets to increase DEI capabilities and advance NRDC’s efforts to build a workplace culture of inclusiveness, belonging, and anti-bias. This person will also serve as a facilitator, leading learning experiences and train-the-trainer sessions. This position reports to the Managing Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and partners closely with the Talent Management Team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled DEI practitioner and learning and development professional with significant experience in development and instructional/curriculum development with a DEI lens. This person will be a skilled trainer and exceptional relationship builder and communicator. This is an individual contributor role with room for growth. As a part of the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, this individual will demonstrate genuine alignment with DEI best-practices and innovation and NRDC’s values and seek to apply their experience and passion to embed diversity, equity and inclusion practices and principles in our people, strategy, and structures used to advance our mission.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct needs analysis at the individual, team, and organizational levels to uncover the learning and developmental needs of individual contributors, leaders, and teams.
  • Build, implement, and execute enterprise-wide, scalable, DEI learning strategy including developing DEI curriculum, staff development, training and learning opportunities, toolkits, and materials that advance NRDC’s DEI commitment and strategy.
  • Serve as subject matter senior advisor to identify and integrate DEI learning and development into business priorities, principles, and operations.
  • Develop and implement accountability measures and metrics to track, evaluate, and report on the progress of DEI and L&D objectives across functions and countries.
  • Lead cross-functional L&D diversity projects and facilitate meetings; handle project documentation and plans, including success metrics, training timelines, and milestones to ensure timely completion of learning project deliverables; and communicate project status across the organization.
  • Develops learning curricula for onboarding, employee, and manager effectiveness trainings.
  • Undertakes needs analysis at the individual, team, and organizational levels to find out the learning and developmental needs of individual contributors, leaders, and teams.
  • Works with individual contributors and people leaders to recommend learning events, learning paths, and talent development interventions based on needs.
  • Create and maintain content that is delivered through a variety of modes and platforms that engage all types of learners and are consistent with adult learning principles; continually review, audit, and update content and materials to integrate best practices that reflect the evolving nature of DEI education.
  • Help build the expertise and capacity of the team and Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
  • Develop and maintain expert knowledge by researching DEI training best practices and emerging trends.
  • Conduct follow-up assessments of learning experiences to evaluate and measure results. Modify programs based on findings, as needed.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in DEI, Learning & Development, Education, Human Resources, or a related discipline. Must have subject matter expertise in DEI.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing a learning agenda in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing an L&D agenda and programming that required building buy-in and leading across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated expertise in DEI content development.
  • Highly skilled communicator (oral and written) and facilitator; experience presenting to large and small groups as a subject matter expert and facilitating in-person and virtual group discussions.
  • Strong understanding and experience applying principles of adult learning theory, needs assessment, instructional design, delivery, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and metrics to demonstrate the impact of L&D interventions.
  • Solid project management skills and experience coordinating multiple events.
  • A track record of leadership in advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, including initiatives related to race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and disability.
  • Experience and understanding of leadership in a multi-racial, multi-generational setting, and the ability to coach others to be inclusive leaders.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and is commensurate with skills and experience. Internal equity will be reviewed and considered to determine a final offer. For this position, the salary range is $131,000 to $144,000.

Our offices are open and we are operating in a hybrid model. We offer NRDCers flexibility, and we ask them to come into the office and spend meaningful time there in collaboration with their colleagues. We call this purposeful presence.
