The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Marketing Cloud Administrator to join the Data Infrastructure team. Working closely with NRDC’s Data Infrastructure, Communications, Development (Fundraising), and E2 (Environmental Entrepreneurs) teams, as well as external consultants, you will take ownership of NRDC’s Marketing Cloud platform and build out NRDC’s marketing and communications efforts in order to achieve our institutional goals.

Additionally, the Marketing Cloud Administrator will be responsible for assisting the Data Infrastructure team with complex technical solutions, maintaining data cleanliness, testing our integrations between our Marketing Cloud instance and Salesforce (CRM), and troubleshooting and problem-solving when technical issues arise.

We are looking for someone who deeply understands marketing, Marketing Cloud, and Salesforce (CRM), with a deep proficiency in technology. The position reports to the Data Infrastructure Director in NRDC’s Information Technology department.

Responsibilities:
  • Configure and set up Marketing Cloud products, including, but not limited to, Email Studio, Automation Studio, Content Builder, Journey Builder, Contact Builder, and Mobile Studio
  • Execute day-to-day marketing operations such as campaign set-up, segmentation, and scheduling to ensure accuracy and timeliness of email campaigns
  • Ensure NRDC’s email and SMS communications comply with all local, state, and federal laws, including, but not limited to, TCPA and CAN-SPAM compliance
  • Own, build, manage, and prioritize tasks and enhancements within NRDC’s Marketing Cloud roadmap
  • Assist in contributing to Salesforce Marketing Cloud solution architecture and recommendations
  • Assist in the training of new users; provide ongoing user support as the primary point of contact; drive adoption; and grow the Marketing Cloud skill set across the organization
  • Assist with the creation and troubleshooting of email templates and CloudPages
  • Create and maintain subscriber lists, data extensions, segmentation groups, and email tracking
  • Develop reports, dashboards, and processes to continuously monitor data quality and integrity
  • Manage Marketing Cloud Connect and integrations with Salesforce and other external systems
  • Conduct QA tests on journeys, integrations, and other changes within Marketing Cloud
  • Gather, define, and document business requirements; align on project definitions; and troubleshoot production issues
  • Maintain documentation of all journeys, emails, queries, Data Extensions, and automations for easy reference, review, and troubleshooting
  • Perform administrator functions such as user management, profile configuration, data management, and more
  • Proactively review Salesforce Marketing Cloud releases, evaluate new features as they are deployed, and maintain knowledge of best practices and implementation strategies
  • Work closely with other members of the Data Infrastructure team to arrive at smart, long-term-oriented decisions
Qualifications:
  • 4+ years experience working with Salesforce Marketing Cloud products, including Email Studio, Automation Studio, Content Builder, Journey Builder, and Contact Builder
  • Experience with Mobile Studio preferred
  • 2+ years experience with Salesforce (CRM) administration and configuration preferred
  • Experience with Marketing Cloud Connect and integration with other systems preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in HTML, CSS, and AMPscript
  • SQL knowledge preferred
  • Experience in translating business requirements into data-driven solutions, using a variety of Marketing Cloud products, including, but not limited to, automations, API integrations, dynamic content using AMPscript, and cross-channel journeys
  • Able to leverage a highly technical mindset with a creative and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments, teams, and business units
  • Ability to provide instruction to audiences of varying technical abilities
  • Ability to effectively manage schedules and projects, and meet deadlines for time-sensitive work
  • Salesforce Certified Marketing Cloud-related credentials preferred Commitment to NRDC’s values and mission

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and commensurate with skills and experience. Salary minimum is $100,000; salary max is $115,000. Salary may be higher as appropriate for the selected candidate, with internal equity considerations taken into account.

Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be attached to any NRDC office in the United States that’s closest to you, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support staff with remote working arrangements.
