The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

Position Summary:

NRDC is seeking a Learning and Development Specialist to work with the Human Resources team in our New York City office. The Learning and Development Specialist will be planning and scheduling training sessions, organizing resources for effective delivery, and will be an important point of contact for the talent development function at NRDC.
Responsibilities:
  • Facilitates learning sessions in in-class, virtual and online formats.
  • Researches, compiles, and recommends best practices in talent development, leadership development and online learning.
  • Develops learning curricula for onboarding, employee, and manager effectiveness trainings.
  • Undertakes needs analysis at the individual and team levels to find out learning needs of leaders, employees, and teams.
  • Works with employees and people leaders to recommend learning events, learning paths, and talent development interventions based on needs.
  • Acts as a thought partner in developing an effective organizational learning and development plan.
  • Coaches course participants on best practices of skill and learning acquisition and application at work.
  • Promotes a learning culture at NRDC through creative ways to maximize learning and engagement.
  • Leads and partakes in talent development projects as assigned by the Director of Talent Development.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a learning and development practitioner.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, I/O Psychology or related discipline.
  • HR and/or learning & development certifications highly welcomed.
  • Commitment to NRDC’s values and mission.

We offer competitive salaries, excellent benefits, and a supportive working environment. Salary is based on a nonprofit scale and commensurate with skills and experience. Hiring range is $90,000 - $110,000. Salary may be higher as appropriate for the selected candidate, with internal equity considerations taken into account.

Since March 2020, NRDC’s offices have been closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. You will be attached to the New York office, but until circumstances allow us to re-open, we will continue to support staff with remote working arrangements. Should you relocate from your current location in the future, we will review any change to your compensation, and relocation assistance, at that time.
