Job Description
NREL's Site Operations Group keeps the laboratory running by providing facility management and support major mechanical systems. The focus of the work of the Facilities Technician is to keep campus facilities up and running efficiently. This work often includes fixing fans, pumps, compressors, refrigeration systems (including charging, evacuating, and repairing), plumbing, and various forms of piping.
Job duties:
  • Perform and direct preventive maintenance on facility systems
  • Perform installation and repairs on facility systems
  • Guide and inspect outside contractors' work
  • Establish monthly and annual preventive maintenance schedules
  • Perform on-call projects
  • Follow all ES&H policies and procedures to ensure and maintain safe working environment
Level II and Level III candidates are expected to have existing certifications and/or experience.
Level I candidates are expected to have a high school diploma, interest in mechanical systems, and a willingness to commit to training and development on the job. Level I hires may also be required to enroll in a trade school program in order to further develop necessary skillsets. NREL provides tuition reimbursement for job-related education.
Basic Qualifications
Level III- AA or certification program of comparable scope in construction, mechanical or electrical technology or equivalent relevant experience. Plus 4 years of relevant experience required.

Level II- AA or certification program of comparable scope in construction, mechanical or electrical technology or equivalent relevant experience. Plus 1 year of relevant experience required.

Additional Required Qualifications
Must have (or be able to obtain) and maintain a valid Colorado driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Trouble shooting capability;
Ability to lift over 70 pounds on a routine basis;
Demonstrated ability to work on a team and independently to accomplish tasks;
Strong customer service skills.

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)
Job Profile: Facilities Tech III / Annual Salary Range: $54,000 - $89,100
Job Profile: Facilities Tech II / Annual Salary Range: $47,800 - $76,500
Job Profile: Facilities Tech I / Annual Salary Range: $41,600 - $66,600
NREL takes into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, expected quality and quantity of work, required travel (if any), external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees.
