National Grid is hiring a Head of Converter to lead Lionlinks converter station development and delivery, including the first of a kind Multi-Terminal Control System which will enable Lionlink to operate as a multiterminal asset. It will also include the leadership of the Development Consent Order (DCO) programme, leading a multidiscipline team to achieve the necessary UK consents to build Lionlink.
This role is pivotal in the delivery of the world’s first Offshore Hybrid Asset (OHA) – an interconnector which connects to offshore wind and the Netherlands through a multiterminal HVDC system.
The role is hybrid with two days in the office required at our base office in Warwick and will be required within this region and occasionally to Mainland Europe.

A competitive salary between £78,000 - £112,000 per annum dependent on capability/ experience.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. What you'll do
- Accountable for the definition, development and successful delivery of the DCO and Converter packages of works; Converter OEM, Converter Civils and first of a kind multiterminal control system.
- Build strong, open and constructive relationships with key stakeholders including JV partners, Supply Chain, Regulator, Local Stakeholders and Consenting Authorities.
- Accountable for the robust monitoring, control and reporting within the project (including SHESQ performance, cost, programme progress, governance, change control, risk management etc)
- Lead and embed a positive SHESQ culture and process safety within the project team and our supply chain, to improve collective SHESQ performance ensuring adherence to both company and JV policies, aims and objectives
- Provide coaching, guidance, direction, and leadership to the project team while ensuring resources meet budget and business plan objectives.
- Responsible for the integration and interfacing of activities of multiple, major project operations; ensuring that project efforts are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting both National Grid’s and the JV partners vision, goals, and strategic plan.
- Responsible for working with other projects in the geographical area (East of England) to build robust relationships and focused interface management to joint outcomes within a constrained environment.
- Responsible for 3-6 direct reports
- You’ll ideally have knowledge of the National Grid business, experience of working in Joint Ventures and be passionate about the nature of our work.
- You will have natural leadership qualities and an excellent stakeholder centric approach that delivers on expectations, whilst being knowledgeable at stakeholder engagement and management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of leading and influencing large, devolved teams, and gaining support and commitment from a wider operational group and setting up structures to actively manage complex interfaces.
- Relationship management experience, driving commercial value and performance through major contracts, is essential as is experience of leading change and business improvement within a complex organisation/programme or project.
- Degree qualified in a relevant subject and/or relevant experience - desirable.
- Engineering Chartership and HVDC project delivery experience - desirable.
