About The Role

This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people.

EGL2 is a 2GW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electrical ‘superhighway’ cable link to be built between Peterhead in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and Drax in North Yorkshire, England. The project is being jointly developed by Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks Transmission (SSENT) and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). The construction phase of the project commenced in August 2025 with construction works due increase across 2026, and energisation planned for 2029.

This role will be based within the National Grid team who are managing the southern onshore section of the works. This work involves the installation of 68km of onshore HVDC cables from Fraisthorpe in the East Riding of Yorkshire to the new converter station site next to Drax Power Station.

We are looking for Senior Project Supervisors, Ideally with Cables experience to join the team on this exciting project! The role requires working on-site in Yorkshire 5 days per week to assist the Project Delivery team in providing safety & quality assurance of the work

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects to scope, time, cost, quality, safety and security of supply.
  • Awareness of NEC/FIDIC Contracts
  • Good understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices and policies.
  • Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
  • Previous experience of project site management capability of working to deadlines and in a contracting environment.
  • You'll be able to show a passion for the world National Grid are building and the UK road to Net Zero.
  • Cable delivery experience

What You'll Do

  • Taking an overall responsibility for the supervisors across the project, for all Health, Safety and Environmental aspects driving a strong culture across the board.
  • Lead coordination of Project Supervisors to ensure safety and quality assurance across the project sites.
  • Act as mentor to Project Supervisors and trainees.
  • Overseeing site compliance under CDM Regulations whilst undertaking sensible monitoring inspections
  • Reviewing all necessary Project Documentation ahead of any works starting, such as Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments, Method Statements.
  • Responsible as the main contact for any safety incidents, acting as the main point of contact along with following up any investigations through to closure on the Incident Management System (Evotix).
  • Monthly Stand Up For Safety meetings on the project, sharing lessons learnt and best practices whilst keeping the integrated project team focused on safety
  • Ensuring the Principal Contractor is holding regular meetings on site as well as a site weekly progress meeting.
  • Leading on the Safety Updates for the monthly Project Review Meetings, engaging the wider team with the work being undertaken out in the field
  • Supporting all aspects of the project management team to ensure Planning consent requirements are fulfilled.
  • Acting as the face for Safety on project events with the Integrated Project Team and wider business functions.
  • Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes and proactively monitor all activities, promptly advising of any risks, opportunities or delays to programme which could impact the overall completion date or costs at completion
  • Ensure the facilitation of regular site safety walks (including joint walks with contractors), holding coordination meetings with all contractors on site, ensuring that access/egress to the site is controlled.
  • Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Project
  • Enacting the role of Employers ‘Supervisor’ or equivalent under the applicable contract.
  • Provide up to date project performance and technical advice

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £64,000 – dependent on capability.
