National Grid is hiring a Environmental Specialist - Warwick - This hybrid role combines office-based working in Warwick, home working and travel to operational and project sites across the UK.
Job Purpose
We're looking for an Environmental Specialist to help drive environmental excellence across National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET). You'll support the delivery of our Environmental Management System (ISO 14001 certified), environmental strategy and Social & Environmental Action Plan, ensuring legislative compliance while promoting continuous improvement across our operations and construction activities.
Working closely with colleagues across the business, you'll provide expert environmental guidance, support positive behavioural change and help embed a strong environmental culture. This is an exciting opportunity to influence environmental performance at a national scale while contributing to the transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
What You'll Do
A competitive salary between £48,000 - £58,000 – dependent on capability.
As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.

What You'll Do
- Support the development and implementation of environmental strategies, policies and standards across Electricity Transmission.
- Provide expert environmental advice to operational, engineering and construction teams, ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and company requirements.
- Support and maintain our ISO14001 certified Environmental Management System, helping drive continual improvement.
- Monitor, analyse and report environmental performance, including the development of KPIs, management reports and performance insights.
- Support environmental incident investigations, identifying root causes and driving lessons learned and improvement actions.
- Work collaboratively with regulators, contractors and external stakeholders to promote good environmental practice.
- Support environmental audits, assurance activities and compliance reporting.
- Assist with the development and delivery of environmental training, engagement initiatives and behavioural change programmes.
- Influence internal teams and contractors to deliver strong environmental performance across operational and construction activities.
- Represent National Grid on industry forums, working groups and external events where appropriate.
- Provide support on specialist environmental topics, including bird management and environmental incident reporting.
- Experience in environmental management within a regulated, operational, construction, utilities, infrastructure or similar environment.
- ISEP Practitioner, or chartership with another relevant professional body.
- A strong understanding of environmental legislation, compliance obligations and environmental risk management.
- Experience working with Environmental Management Systems, particularly ISO 14001.
- The ability to interpret environmental requirements and translate them into practical business solutions.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience influencing colleagues, contractors and external organisations.
- Experience supporting incident investigations, audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- A degree, diploma or equivalent professional qualification in an environmental discipline or related field.
- Experience within the electricity, energy, utilities or construction sectors.
- Knowledge of environmental incident management and reporting processes.
- Experience working with environmental regulators and external agencies.
- Understanding of bird management and biodiversity considerations within infrastructure projects.
- Full UK driving licence.
