About The Role

National Grid Interconnectors is at the heart of UK’s transition to our net zero energy future. We operate a number of HVDC Interconnectors that connect the UK’s energy system to some of our closest neighbours, allowing energy to be imported to and exported from the UK.

As well as already owning a portfolio of HVDC Interconnectors, we’re working on developing new projects to ensure that we are able to meet the UK’s future demands for greener energy solutions.

We are currently have two vacancies for Contract and Commercial Managers - 1 x permanent vacancy and also 1 x 12 month secondment to shape the Future of IFA Project, a £300m investment to maintain the life of our French Interconnector IFA to 2050.

As a Contract and Commercial Manager you’ll be advising various teams on best practice in Contract Management. You will also be supporting the development of our contract management maturity as we look to improve how we manage our supply chain across our portfolio; this will involve working on a wide range of inter-team and business improvement projects as part of your day-to-day role.

This role comes with direct line management as you will have a team of 1-2 Quantity Surveyors who are each supported by their own teams of Contract Analysts and administrators.

If you have working knowledge of standard form contracts (NEC, FIDIC and Bespoke) and also experience of leading others working in contract management within a construction or operational environment previously we would love to hear from you!

This role is hybrid and you can enjoy working from our office in Warwick or London and home, there will also be travel to site in Sellindge, so we require someone who has a full UK driving licence.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of quantity surveyors and contract analyst to deliver the supply chain approach and requirements
  • Own the business process for the creation and management of budgets, cost control and financial governance
  • Provide challenge and review of cost performance in identified strategic projects prior to contract award
  • Ensure contract compliance and lead in providing quality assurance of contract performance
  • Lead in providing independent reviews and advice on complex variations and compensation events and support the process of escalation and dispute avoidance/resolution
  • Drive the development of reporting that helps to inform business decision making
  • Provide support and data to various teams for any Board and/or regulatory reporting requirements

What you'll need

  • You will ideally have experience of cost analysis, programme evaluation, monitoring cost performance, as well as analysing and negotiating complex contracts, compensation events and variations.
  • You will have the ability to prepare reports and collate information as well as presenting this in a concise manner for a range of stakeholders including senior leadership.
  • 5 years minimum experience in quantity surveying, contract or commercial management
  • Degree educated in quantity surveying, construction management or construction law

What you'll get

A competitive salary between £63,000 – £72,000 per annum dependent on capability.
