Director, NY Environmental Sustainability

The Director of NY Environmental Sustainability is responsible for supporting the NY business unit to drive achievement of National Grids environmental sustainability goals as set out in the Responsible Business Charter (RBC). This role will support the NY business in its efforts to deliver on our environmental sustainability goals by leading a small team responsible for embedding environmental RBC commitments and ambitions into end-to-end strategy, planning and performance processes, ensuring NYs environmental sustainability goals align with Group Responsible Business commitments, overseeing the monitoring and internal reporting progress against BU commitments and fulfilling external environmental sustainability reporting, disclosure, and compliance needs. 
 Ensure environmental sustainability commitments are fully embedded into end-to-end NY business planning and performance processes, including long-term strategic planning, annual planning, and quarterly rolling forecasts 
 Ensure environmental sustainability commitments are embedded into business performance processes, including Operational Review Meetings (ORM), Business Review Meetings (BRM), Monthly Business Reviews (MBR), quarterly RBC deep dives and feeding YE data into various Group Exec reporting including the CEO Scorecard 
 Coordinate with the Sustainability CoE and NY Environmental Sustainability team to regularly refresh progress against the scope 1, 2, 3 CTP glidepaths where most material; ensure glidepaths are aligned in the BU with key partners including the wider Transformation and Strategy team, relevant operational teams, and where useful NYs glidepaths 
 Oversee the development of NY contributions to other Group environmental sustainability goals such as biodiversity, supply chains and assurance 
 Ensure accurate and timely delivery of external sustainability reporting and disclosures in NY on an ongoing basis along with helping to shape and support rate cases 
 Ensure the successful delivery of environmental sustainability projects, programs, and external engagements 
 Support the CoE to advance environmental sustainability initiatives, such as ESG automation improvements 
 that drive sustainability priorities across the NY business unit 
 Manage the delivery, performance and development of the NY Environmental Sustainability team, including setting annual objectives, providing timely feedback, fostering development plans, and championing Communities of Practice 
 Bachelors Degree and at least 10 years of expertise in environmental sustainability, including GHG accounting, science-based targets, decarbonization levers in the energy sector, nature, etc. 
 Awareness of NY-specific influences on environmental sustainability, such as state policy and plans 
 Experience managing senior relationships across business areas is highly preferred 
 A valid drivers license that meets National Grids Safe Driver policy is required 
 High personal and professional integrity and strong work ethics 
 Passionate about sustainability with high levels of enthusiasm and drive to achieve results 
 Demonstrated ability to manage adversity and challenging situations 
 Strong coaching and collaboration skills within diverse and dispersed teams
