We’re looking for a Python Software Engineer to join our Network Topology Optimisation team, helping to develop innovative software that supports smarter operation of the electricity network.

You’ll design, develop and enhance existing applications that automate engineering processes, integrate with specialist analysis tools and improve operational efficiency. Working alongside engineers and technical specialists, you’ll develop robust, maintainable code, contribute to new optimisation solutions and help shape the future of our technology.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex problems through software development and is keen to learn, innovate and make a real impact.

This role can be based in Wokingham, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home with the requirement to be present in the office 1-2 days/week. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, develop and maintain Python applications and software solutions.
  • Enhance and automate engineering processes through innovative software development.
  • Develop and improve optimisation algorithms and data processing solutions.
  • Integrate applications with specialist engineering software and external APIs.
  • Produce well-structured, maintainable and documented code.
  • Support testing, deployment and continuous improvement of developed solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, digital teams and external partners to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Take ownership of developed applications, providing ongoing support and enhancements.

About You

  • Experience developing applications in Python.
  • The ability to write clean, well-structured and maintainable code.
  • Experience working with data processing, APIs or software integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive approach, with the curiosity and ambition to learn and apply new technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or another relevant STEM discipline is desirable.

Experience with power system analysis software would be advantageous but is not essential.
