The Regulatory Excellence Manager will be NESO’s owner of regulatory excellence and regulatory compliance, ensuring the organisation consistently meets its minimum obligations through clear standards, strong controls and disciplined, professional delivery. As Regulatory Excellence Manager, you lead the “getting the basics right” agenda — embedding clear rules, transparent accountabilities and disciplined follow‑through across Directorates to create a stable, confident compliance environment. You set and uphold NESO’s regulatory quality bar, acting as the gatekeeper for high‑quality regulatory submissions and the steward of a regulatory framework that is practical, reliable and consistently applied.
This role can be based in Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

A competitive salary of £70,000 - £75,000 dependent on experience and capabilityAs well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance, 28 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

- Owning NESO’s licence and regulatory compliance, acting as the single point of accountability for meeting all minimum obligations through clear standards, strong controls and disciplined assurance.
- Providing authoritative regulatory advice and challenge to senior managers and SMEs, and translating complex obligations into clear, actionable guidance that supports confident, consistent delivery.
- Embedding a professional regulatory compliance culture, ensuring “basics right” foundations — clear rules, transparent ownership and consistent follow‑through — are understood and sustained across Directorates.
- Acting as gatekeeper for all regulatory regulatory submissions , ensuring outputs are accurate, complete, compliant and aligned with NESO’s regulatory excellence and quality bar.
- Leading NESO’s regulatory assurance system, strengthening controls, identifying and closing gaps early, setting quality expectations and driving decisive corrective action.
- Ensuring consistent, aligned regulatory processes, partnering proactively with Directorates and building strong, trusted relationships with senior managers and directors to embed reliable, joined‑up delivery.
- Owning compliance‑related external regulatory engagement, preparing high‑quality assured content for Ofgem, Government and industry, and ensuring NESO consistently demonstrates clarity, accuracy and regulatory excellence.
- Owning and managing regulatory compliance risks, spotting early signals, escalating appropriately and coordinating timely action to prevent issues materialising.
- Driving continuous improvement in regulatory standards, processes, controls and assurance mechanisms, strengthening NESO’s regulatory posture and maturing its compliance culture.
- Ensuring high-quality, disciplined support is provided across the wider Regulation team, with strong coordination, clear governance and reliable delivery.
- Contributing flexibly across the Regulation function, focusing effort where it delivers greatest value and reinforces regulatory excellence across the organisation.
About You

- Degree‑level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field (law, regulation, policy, economics, engineering).
- Demonstrable experience in regulatory compliance, license compliance, assurance, controls and governance.
- Experience in the UK energy sector or regulated industries would be advantageous.
- Disciplined, structured and detail‑driven, with a strong commitment to regulatory excellence and ensuring NESO consistently meets its licence and regulatory obligations.
- Deep regulatory, compliance and assurance expertise, with the judgement to interpret complex obligations and translate them into clear, practical guidance.
- Hold yourself and others to high standards of accuracy, clarity and completeness, ensuring outputs are robust, defensible and compliant.
- A proactive, ownership‑driven approach, anticipating issues early, closing gaps quickly and strengthening compliance foundations across Directorates.
- Build trusted, proactive relationships with senior managers and Directors, engaging early to align expectations, surface risks and embed disciplined regulatory behaviours.
- Communicate with clarity and confidence, simplifying complexity and providing authoritative advice and constructive challenge that improves decision‑making.
- Model NESO’s professional regulatory compliance culture, consistently demonstrating disciplined follow‑through, strong evidence and a focus on getting the basics right.
