About Us

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.

In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always actin in the best interests of all energy users.

Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thing and public value.

The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future.

Your energy. Our future. Together

National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future.

About The Role

The Whole Energy System Resilience (WESR) directorate strengthens whole-energy-system resilience by being a catalyst for change – turning insight into coordinated, prioritised action that reduces risk and builds capability across the system. WESR delivers this through analysis, assessments, reviews, emergency exercises, and plans that drive tangible improvements with our partners.

This role initially starts as a 12-month fixed term contract. In this dynamic role blends coordination, communication, and tactical support—especially during incident response—where your input will help keep the nation’s energy systems secure and responsive. You’ll manage key administrative functions, support emergency planning, and contribute to high-impact projects that influence government and regulatory decisions.

If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy working across teams, and want to make a real difference in national energy preparedness, this is your opportunity.

This role can based from our Warwick or Wokingham office, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support the delivery of key initiatives across the Emergency Preparedness & Restoration area by providing administrative and operational coordination across multiple projects and workstreams. Ensure compliance with data handling policies, information storage and security requirements, and help remove administrative barriers to delivery.
  • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and events with internal and external partners, ensuring smooth scheduling, circulation of agendas and papers, and timely follow-up on actions.
  • Act as a technical secretary and minute-taker in key decision meetings, ensuring an accurate record of discussions and decisions is captured and disseminated.
  • Maintain and update trackers, dashboards, and shared information systems, ensuring they are accurate, current, and accessible to the team.
  • Support teams in ensuring that products meet the required standard before progressing through quality assurance checklists against outputs and deliverables at each stage of work.
  • Support teams to follow standardised processes, templates, and ways of working.
  • Collate progress updates, risks, and management information from teams to support the reporting to leadership.
  • Maintain stakeholder contact lists, engagement logs, and other reference materials across the Emergency Preparedness & Restoration area. Support the arrangement of stakeholder meetings and circulate follow-up correspondence.
  • Organise IT equipment, system access, building passes, and other logistics for new starters ahead of their start date. Support the induction process to help new team members get up to speed quickly, and coordinate the leavers process to ensure the safe return of equipment and access.
  • Coordinate training activity across the function, including e-learning and continuing professional development, ensuring team members complete required training on time.
  • Manage the logging of queries and coordinate with the relevant individuals and teams to ensure effective resolution.
  • Support filing, version control, and the upkeep of shared drives and information systems so that documentation is well-organised, secure, and easy to find.
  • Take responsibility for coordinating relevant surveys (e.g. employee engagement surveys), ensuring completion across the function and that resulting actions are agreed and followed up.
  • Provide meeting and calendar support to the Senior Manager and leadership team.
  • Work closely with other Function Coordinators across the directorate, and the central portfolio management team to ensure alignment and continuous improvement of coordination and quality assurance practices.
