Position Summary

Reporting to the Managing Director, Global Policy, the Senior Manager, International Policy is a key member of the Policy team. The Senior Manager, International Policy, will be responsible for working with a network of climate and clean energy experts, providing support for network operations, as well as policy research and analysis. The Senior Manager, International Policy will also provide critical policy research, analysis, writing and strategic guidance on international conservation and climate policy, while serving as a visible representative of Audubon with international organizations, government agencies and partner organizations. The Senior Manager also works closely with the colleagues on the Global Policy team, and throughout Audubon, to provide guidance and helpful tools to distribute across Audubon’s network, including background materials for consultants and other relevant content for internal communications.

This position is classified as hybrid, in accordance with Audubon’s “Where We Work” Policy. Hybrid employees are expected to work in an Audubon office every Monday and Tuesday and an additional two days each month of the employee’s choosing. Compensation

Salary range based on geo-differentials:

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • In coordination with the Managing Director, Global Policy, facilitate the operation of a network of climate and clean energy experts, including organizing virtual meetings and in-person events, managing listservs and discussion groups, and maintaining documents;
  • Provide research, analysis, and policy input on domestic and international climate and clean energy issues to support to network of climate and clean energy experts;
  • Working with the Managing Director, Global Policy and other Audubon staff, provide policy research, analysis, writing and strategic guidance on international conservation and climate issues relevant to Audubon’s Healthy Birds, Healthy Planet Policy Agenda;
  • Assess opportunities and identify policy priorities to advance to the international goals in Audubon’s Healthy Birds, Healthy Planet Policy Agenda;
  • Support Audubon engagement in key global, regional, and non-U.S. policy-related events and meetings;
  • In partnership with policy and other staff across the organization, develop and implement strategies in support of international policy goals and objectives;
  • Prepare high quality policy analysis, fact sheets, position papers, presentations and other materials necessary to advance Audubon’s international policy priorities;
  • Represent Audubon with key international partnerships and stakeholder groups, monitoring activities and helping to advance Audubon policy positions;
  • Identify and mobilize key allies and stakeholders in international organizations, governments, non-governmental organizations, companies, and philanthropies to help amplify Audubon international policy priorities in key fora;
  • Serve as a resource for Audubon staff working on international policy issues;
  • Support a culture of philanthropy and help identify and steward opportunities for funding to support conservation and climate priorities;
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization, including through joint planning and execution of shared priorities;
  • Maintain and foster culture of safety.
  • Other job-related duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, international relations, economics, natural resources or related field and 7+ years’ experience with a relevant federal agency working on climate or clean energy issues, with an international organization, or with a policy-oriented nonprofit organization is required. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience working in international climate negotiations, and/or on U.S. climate or clean energy foreign assistance, is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with coordinating networks, partnerships, working groups or similar is required.
  • History of managing and reporting on funded projects is strongly preferred.
  • Past experience working with international organizations, processes, or partnerships is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work diplomatically with a wide range of stakeholders and partners.
  • Experience cultivating sustainable partnerships with a broad variety of communities with an emphasis on communities that are new to environmental and concertation work, a plus.
  • Outstanding policy analysis and research skills, with the demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively manage a complex workflow. 
  • Excellent communications skills with ability to write clearly and command of public speaking; must be comfortable representing Audubon with a variety of stakeholders, including international, government, and partner organizations. 
  • Exceptional judgment, with the demonstrated ability to think creatively and make strategic recommendations to key leaders within an organization. 
  • A self-starter, with experience working in decentralized organizations and collaborating with cross-departmental teams. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and desire to be part of and contribute to a team effort. 
  • Demonstrated interest in climate and conservation and commitment to the mission of Audubon and political insight of the nexus between international policy and environmental issues needed.
