ASE is a diverse school focusing on the connections between geosciences, ecology, society and Earth systems. Our approach integrates these disciplines to examine big environmental challenges both in Southeast Asia and globally. We conduct cutting-edge research on topics that include ecology, geohazards, climate change, sea-level rise, environmental sustainability, conservation of environment and biodiversity, and interactions between environment and society. The Yanyan Cheng research group is seeking a Research Associate. This position is part of a Singapore MOE funded research project hosted by ASE. The Research Associate will help advance research in integrated assessment modeling and understand interactions among land, water, carbon, energy, climate, ecosystems, and human systems.

This is a one-year appointment and potentially renewable based on performance and funding availability.

Key Responsibilities

  • To collect and synthesize socioeconomic and energy data for Southeast Asia to support GCAM pathway development.
  • To implement region-specific settings in GCAM to design tailored development pathways.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should hold a Master's degree in Environmental Science.
  • The candidate should have at least 4 years of relevant experience in GCAM development and application, and in integrating industrial ecology methods (e.g., LCA, MFA, TEA) with GCAM, and in policy-based scenario analysis methods, and have a track record of relevant publications in top journals.
  • The candidate should be familiar with climate and environmental studies, have conducted research in key sectors such as energy, transportation, hydrogen and bioeconomy, and have relevant publications in top journals.
  • The candidate should have advanced programming skills and have produced original codes in areas such as energy, transportation, hydrogen or other key sectors in public repositories (e.g., GitHub).
  • The candidate should have experience in academic dissemination, with at least two oral presentation experiences on at top-tier academic conferences in the fields of resources, environment, climate, and industrial ecology.
  • The candidate should have strong experience in paper writing, with at least 5 first-author peer-reviewed papers of energy, transportation, and hydrology.

ASE seeks a diverse and inclusive workforce and is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all and recruit on the basis of merit, regardless of age, race, gender, religion, marital status and family responsibilities, or disability.
