The Weld Team Lead will oversee the daily operations of the welding team, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency standards are met. This role combines leadership responsibilities with technical expertise in TIG/MIG welding and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve production goals.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management:
- Supervise, mentor, and manage a team of welders, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure project deadlines are met.
- Provide training and guidance to enhance team members' skills in TIG/MIG welding and related tasks.
- Layout, assemble, and weld metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, and steel.
- Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and BOMs to construct large, complex units.
- Operate AC/DC welding equipment, select appropriate settings, and ensure welds meet structural and cosmetic standards.
- Inspect welding work to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Address and resolve quality issues in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and address potential hazards.
- Maintain welding equipment and ensure it is in good working condition.
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve welding techniques and optimize processes.
- Maintain accurate records of production, team performance, and equipment maintenance.
- Provide regular updates and reports to management.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Advanced TIG/MIG welding experience, including aluminum welding.
- Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and welding symbols.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and quality standards.
- Certification in welding (e.g., AWS, ASME, or equivalent).
- Experience with crane rigging and moving large assemblies.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Exposure to heat, noise, and welding fumes.
- Standing for extended periods and using personal protective equipment (PPE).
