Environment Officer
This position sits within the Environment and Sustainability team and supports the delivery of initiatives that help create a more sustainable and liveable community. The role focuses on developing and delivering projects, partnerships and engagement activities that address urban sustainability challenges, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting environmentally responsible practices.
You will work closely with community groups, schools, businesses and internal teams to design and implement sustainability programs and initiatives aligned with Council's strategic priorities.
Occasional evening or after-hours attendance at meetings, workshops or events may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with internal departments, community organisations, government bodies and industry partners to deliver sustainability initiatives.
- Coordinate networks and act as a key contact for groups such as schools, community gardens and local organisations.
- Plan and deliver community sustainability programs including environmental initiatives and grant-supported projects.
- Organise and support environmental events such as workshops, forums, campaigns and festivals.
- Contribute content for digital and print communications including the website, newsletters and social media.
- Support the implementation of sustainability strategies and action plans across the organisation.
- Assist with additional tasks and projects as directed by the Manager or Coordinator.
Key Relationships External: Local councils, environmental organisations, government agencies, research partners, community and business groups, schools, industry representatives and campaign partners.
Internal: Teams across Council including planning, regulatory services, community services, communications, events, libraries, facilities and major projects.

Essential Requirements
- Relevant tertiary qualification in environmental studies, sustainability or a related field.
- Experience delivering sustainability initiatives, programs or community engagement activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentations and report writing.
- Well-developed organisational and project management abilities.
- Knowledge of key environmental and sustainability topics such as climate change, energy, waste, water conservation and biodiversity.
- Experience working with community groups or managing community-based programs and events.
