Background


The PSEG Institute for Sustainability Studies (PSEG ISS) at Montclair State University supports transdisciplinary research and community projects that aim to grow more sustainable and resilient communities. Through partnerships with local businesses and corporations, local municipalities and governments, and non-profit organizations, we address local and global sustainability challenges including climate change, emissions, energy, clean water, waste, food, and food insecurity.


Position Summary and Responsibilities


The PSEG ISS is hiring a Program Manager (PM) for our Green Teams summer internship program. The Green Teams program is an intensive 11-week program during which 50 undergraduate students from across the country are placed into 10 teams and paired with organizations with which they implement sustainability-themed projects. Each Green Team reports to one of five Assistant Program Managers (APMs), who in turn report to one of two Program Managers. Responsibilities for PMs include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Assisting in delegating daily and on-going tasks to APMs
  • Specific content knowledge support (e.g., GIS, R, Surveys, Sustainability, etc.) 
  • Survey making
  • Taking attendance
  • Sending out emails to guest speakers and/or subject matter experts and resource specialists
  • Technological assistance and troubleshooting
  • Assisting in team bonding activities 
  • Editing/updating the interns’ schedule
  • Helping with weekly prizes to the interns 
  • Introducing guest speakers and moderating panels 
  • Other miscellaneous tasks that may come up


Position Details

  • Dates: May 11 - August 14, 2026
  • Stipend: $35/hour for 40 hour per week
  • Modality: This position is fully in-person, with the PM expected to be present at the PSEG ISS on the Montclair State University campus during all working hours. 
  • Work days and hours are as follows: Monday-Friday during onboarding and offboarding (May 11-16 and August 10-14), Monday - Thursday throughout the internship period (May 27-August 6) from 8am to 6pm. 


Required Qualifications

  • Recent graduate (undergraduate degree conferred between 2022-2026) or current graduate student.
  • Completed or enrolled in a degree program related to Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Ecology, Biology, Physical Science, or a related field.
  • US Citizen or Foreign Citizen with current authorization to work in the US throughout the full position time period.
  • Reside within driving distance from Montclair State University or willing to live on campus during the employment period. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in leadership roles and managing project work.
