Operations Manager
Entity: Monsoon Carbon Pte Ltd (a CnerG group company)
Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Reports to: Managing Director, Monsoon, and CnerG - our holding company and group headquarters (Seoul)
Monsoon originates and trades renewable energy certificates (RECs) and carbon credits across Southeast Asia. We manage the RECs for over 160 RE power plants globally, with much of this portfolio spread across our SEA markets. That supply base is what allows us to serve buyers at a scale and reliability few others can match.
The Monsoon team based in HCMC comprises several parts – the REC Sales, Trade Support, REC Supply and Origination, REC Processing, Green Gas Certificates, Marketing and Business Development, Admin and Accounting. We also have a Carbon Credit project origination, project management, and carbon sales team, which operates relatively separately.
Following our integration with CnerG, our holding company and group headquarters, we are building the operational backbone of the RECs business with the aim of enabling the business to scale across Vietnam, Indonesia, and Australia. This role is central to that build.
This is a hands-on operations role managing a team of about 9 people, overseeing everything from origination, trade execution, delivery and settlement. You will own the operational layer that keeps our REC trading desks, supply team, and project workflows coordinated and moving. You'll manage contracts, track delivery obligations, coordinate across time zones and teams, and make sure nothing sits unowned. It is as much about building processes as it is about running them.
The role is focused on the management of the REC business and the RECs Team and does not initially include management of the Carbon business or Carbon Team.
The role carries a reporting and documentation component - both to the Managing Director and to group headquarters - but it is first and foremost a hands-on management position with real ownership. You will:
- Manage and develop a strong operations team.
- Oversee REC trading monitoring, contract administration, and project coordination.
- Act as the connective tissue between sales, supply, finance, and our group headquarters in Seoul.
- Support business growth by identifying opportunities in the REC and carbon markets.
- Build documented processes that let the business scale without depending on individual people.
A highly organized, positive, multi-skilled professional that has project management and team management skills as well as technical competency and client relationship skills.
- Fast learner. REC markets are technical, jurisdiction-specific, and move quickly. You will not know everything on day one - we care that you can climb the curve without hand-holding. You will need to build your knowledge and your expertise and to stay abreast of industry and market developments.
- People manager. Our business is all about managing and building relationships - internal relationships with our own team and with the other businesses in the Group, and external relationships with our customers (buyers), our suppliers, our service providers. You will be responsible for managing and supporting a (fantastic) team comprising locals and expats with diverse backgrounds.
- Strong communicator. You will be the connective tissue between people and different teams that need to be coordinated. You will need to be able to explain concepts and proposals clearly to stakeholders. Clear writing and the ability to hold a conversation with a junior staff member, our senior RECs traders, an end-buyer corporation, an owner of a solar power plant, a REC trader, a lawyer, and an accountant in the same afternoon matter more here than polish.
- Multi-tasker. Organized! You will need to organize your own workload and also those of the team; able to understand what is required, dissect, prioritize, designate and see things through, simultaneously, across many tasks and teams.
- Decision maker. Trading RECs requires making decisions and being nimble when opportunities arise or problems appear.
- Listens first. You listen and ask questions before proposing solutions, and you can hold a room where two teams disagree without picking a side prematurely.
- Detail discipline. Contracts, registries, and settlement records are unforgiving of approximation. You should be someone who checks rather than assumes.
- Ownership mindset. You treat an unresolved problem as yours until it is closed, regardless of which desk or entity it originated in.
- 5+ years in trade-related operations, corporate sustainability, contract administration, project management, or a comparable cross-functional role
- Prior people management experience is preferred
- Business management and business development experience will be highly regarded
- Both technical and client-facing experience is preferred
- An understanding of, and an interest in, corporate sustainability, particularly as it relates to climate change
- Experience in commodities, energy, or environmental markets is welcome but not required - we will train the right operator on the market
- Familiarity with environmental attribute certificates, standards and registries is welcome but not required
- Exposure to commercial contract administration, paralegal work, or corporate secretarial support is strongly preferred
- Fluent written and spoken English is required; additional languages are a plus
- High proficiency with spreadsheets and operational tracking systems
- Based in or willing to relocate to Ho Chi Minh City
