We seek an innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to take a significant role in designing and engineering the air conditioner of the future. This role is full-time onsite and based out of our Manufacturing facility in Anderson, South Carolina.

About the Mechanical Design Engineer position:
We seek an innovative Mechanical Design Engineer to take a significant role in designing and engineering our liquid desiccant air conditioner. The successful candidate will “get in at the ground floor” of our newly launched and funded business to design and launch into the market industry-changing commercial HVAC products. They must be comfortable overcoming design challenges under deadlines, working across teams, and working both independently and as managed locally and remotely. Responsibilities:
- Lead the mechanical design and testing of sub-systems and components for a novel HVAC product, including:
- Designing systems and components in a collaborative CAD environment (OnShape).
- Building prototype systems and components by hand or by overseeing contractors.
- Designing and executing subsystem tests to explore design space and validate solutions.
- Evaluating and improving designs for DFM/DFA.
- Working with the manufacturing team to address and solve product issues.
- Coordinate with others to address changes affecting multiple aspects of a system.
- Own projects from concept through manufacturing.
- Produce production-quality solid models and engineering drawings.
- Manage revision control of product CAD and BOM.
- Manage vendors to quote, build, and evaluate prototype and production parts.
- Basic fabrication, assembly, machining, testing, debugging, and parts chasing.
- Participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 3+ year’s experience in mechanical design and design for manufacturing
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or Onshape preferred)
- Strong critical thinking skills: ability to deep dive into cause-effect and complex diagnostics
- Demonstrable communications skills across a range of skill levels
- Demonstrated history of hands-on experience in design/build
- Knowledgeable in common manufacturing processes, including sheet metal, metal forming, injection molding, machining, etc.
- Structured problem-solving skills, leveraging inputs such as functional documentation (P&ID diagrams, mechanical drawings)
Expected compensation:
- Base salary $75,000 - $125,000
- Equity award (4 year vest) on hire. Equity represents a significant component of total compensation
