Position Description

The Crane Operator Lead Hand plays a key role in supporting production and heavy lift operations by safely operating mobile cranes and participating in all lift crew activities. This position requires strong safety awareness, the ability to follow engineered lift plans, and experience working in dynamic industrial environments. The Lead Hand acts as a knowledgeable and reliable team member who supports both crane operation and general lift crew responsibilities.

Afternoon Shift - Monday to Friday - 3:00PM - 11:30PM

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile cranes (within the scope of certification) in full compliance with Alberta provincial regulations and company safety protocols.
  • Perform daily pre-operational inspections on cranes and related equipment.
  • Assist in rigging duties, including the proper selection, inspection, and use of slings, shackles, spreader bars, and other rigging components.
  • Execute lifts according to engineered lift plans and under the guidance of the Lift Supervisor.
  • Maintain clear communication with riggers, spotters, and site supervisors using radios and standardized hand signals.
  • Participate in Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), toolbox meetings, and all required safety discussions.
  • Accurately complete lift documentation, inspection forms, and safety records.
  • Support general lift crew and yard duties when not actively operating the crane.

Required Education & Qualifications

  • Valid Alberta Hoisting Equipment Operator Certification (appropriate to crane class).
  • Minimum 2 years of crane operating experience in industrial, construction, or energy sector environments.
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s license (considered an asset depending on equipment type).
  • Strong understanding of OH&S regulations, safe lifting practices, and mobile crane operation standards.
  • Effective communication skills and a strong commitment to teamwork and safety.
