Türkiye Country Lead

Location: Türkiye (Ankara preferred)

Reports to: Managing Director, ITA

Full-time, fixed term contract (approx 1.5 years)

About the Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA)

The Industrial Transition Accelerator (ITA) is a global not-for-profit, multilateral initiative launched at COP28 to accelerate green industrial development, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies. Co-chaired by UAE Minister of Industry and COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, UN Climate Change Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, and UN Special Envoy Michael Bloomberg, the ITA brings together leadership in policy, industry and finance to support commercial-scale low- and zero-emissions projects across six heavy industry and transport sectors: aluminium, cement, chemicals, steel, aviation and shipping.

The ITA is launching a Project Acceleration Programme in Türkiye, following a proven ITA methodology currently operating in Brazil, the UAE , Egypt and India, where the ITA is actively supporting close to 40 commercial-scale clean industrial projects with combined investment potential of USD $80 billion.

Position Overview

The Türkiye Country Lead will serve as the ITA's primary in-country presence, driving forward the ITA Project Acceleration Programme in Türkiye, in partnership with a local partner organisation. Starting with an accelerated Pipeline Diagnostic sprint in 2026 and moving into a 2–3 year Implementation Phase from 2027, the role will work in close collaboration with MPP’s global team, local public and private stakeholders and partners to identify and help unlock systemic barriers preventing commercial-scale clean industrial projects from reaching investment readiness.

This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of industrial policy, clean industry transition and multilateral finance in one of the world's most strategically important emerging markets — shaping the next generation of green industrial investment in Türkiye.

The Türkiye Country Lead’s responsibilities include:

  • Programme delivery: Lead the Phase 1 Pipeline Diagnostic phase, working closely with a local partner organisation to engage deeply with project developers, government, public and private financiers, and ecosystem players feeding into key deliverables building the basis for the longer second phase. Including, (1) delivery of a ‘Build Clean Now’ workshop and subsequent publication of a country spotlight report outlining the systemic barriers holding back clean industry projects, and (2) preparation of a phase 2 implementation plan.
  • Stakeholder engagement & partnership: Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across key stakeholder groups in government, industry, finance and civil society. Represent the ITA in high-level engagements nationally and internationally as needed. Working closely with local ‘anchor’ partner organisation to ensure effective on-the ground delivery. Act as a key liaison between global and key stakeholders.
  • Monitoring, reporting & knowledge management: tracking and reporting against ITA KPIs including progress of local project pipeline & progress of structural interventions with relevant stakeholders (e.g. policymakers)

Position Requirements:

  • Mid-career professional with extensive experience in a high-caliber environment (corporate C-Suite, government, or top-tier strategy consulting firm).
  • Prior experience and solid working knowledge of the climate space, in particular of industry, transport & energy decarbonization.
  • Demonstrated experience, familiarity, and ability to operate effectively in local working culture.
  • Proven stakeholder engagement experience: bringing together diverse stakeholders from private sector, policy, and finance to work on low-carbon energy solutions.
  • Proactive and a self-starter, appetite for working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent project management and coordination skills – ability to support a complex programme delivered by a lean team, maintaining direction while adapting to changing circumstances.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and shape strategies based on insights.
  • Clear, high-quality communication: verbal, written, presentation. Ability to develop compelling narratives based on quantitative and qualitative data, and write concise, well-structured documents conveying clear but subtle messages.
  • Collaborative team player, with strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to develop and nurture trusting relationships and partnerships with a range of stakeholders (inc. senior executives) from different organisational and geographical horizons.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills, excellent digital skills.
  • Thrives in dynamic, entrepreneurial, intellectual environments and has flexibility in approach.
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree.
  • Proficiency in Turkish (business/professional)

Additional Desirable Requirements:

  • Established local/regional network relevant to the ITA sectors of focus
  • Commercial deal experience
  • Experience working in/with membership organisations, and the corporate, NGO and policy worlds.
