Mid-Maine Waste Action Corporation (MMWAC) is a municipally owned waste-to-energy facility serving central Maine communities by safely converting solid waste into renewable energy. We are seeking a Process Control Manager to lead all aspects of our plant’s automation, instrumentation, and control systems. This position works hands-on with, and provides leadership for, the Electrical & Instrumentation (E/I) Department, consisting of two skilled E/I Technicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and optimize all process control systems, including DCS/PLC networks, instrumentation, and plant automation hardware/software.
- Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot, analyze, and resolve system or process issues.
- Design, implement, and document control system logic and configuration changes in coordination with vendors and engineering staff.
- Maintain and update control logic documentation, loop sheets, and network architecture drawings.
- Plan and oversee control system upgrades, network security initiatives, and SCADA improvements.
- Monitor performance data and apply control strategies to improve plant throughput, stability, and emissions compliance.
- Provide training and technical support to operators on control system functions and safe operating procedures.
- Manage contracts, budgets, and vendor relationships for automation and control projects.
- Direct and support the daily activities of the E/I Technicians, ensuring safe, effective, and timely completion of work.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Automation, Instrumentation, or a related technical discipline — or equivalent experience in industrial process control.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in process control, automation, or instrumentation within power generation, waste-to-energy, or heavy industrial environments.
- Proficiency with DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems (Honeywell, Allen-Bradley, or equivalent).
- Strong understanding of P&IDs, loop diagrams, and instrumentation calibration principles.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex control system and process issues.
- Experience managing control system upgrades, network communications, and system cybersecurity measures.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to lead small technical teams and coordinate with outside vendors and contractors.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with Honeywell HC900 and Experion HS control systems.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar drafting software for control and instrumentation drawings.
- Knowledge of industrial networking, including Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC protocols.
- Control loop tuning and performance optimization experience.
