Project Manager- Climate Pollution Reduction Grant
Job Description
This is a professional position of service to the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida (“Tribe”) requiring specialized knowledge in environmental project management and federal grant compliance. The incumbent will serve a key role in overseeing the development, coordination, and successful implementation of projects funded under the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) program. These efforts directly support the Tribe’s environmental goals and climate resilience strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the planning, coordination, and implementation of CPRG-funded climate action and pollution reduction projects across Tribal Lands.
- Collaborate closely with Tribal Leadership, Tribal departments, and external stakeholders to ensure that project objectives align with Tribal climate strategies and policy frameworks.
- Ensure timely and effective execution of CPRG-funded activities, including the preparation and submission of project deliverables and reports.
- Manage project budgets, in close coordination with the Finance Department, ensuring expenditures are tracked and aligned with Tribal and federal requirements.
- Administer all compliance and reporting requirements as outlined by the EPA’s CPRG program, including documentation, auditing, and performance metrics.
- Coordinate and evaluate the work of consultants, contractors, and technical experts involved in the design and execution of CPRG projects.
- Monitor on-the-ground implementation of project components, including site visits and progress inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans and timelines.
- The incumbent must be dedicated to serve the needs, interests, and people of the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida, and must be diligent to protect and assert Tribal sovereignty.
- The incumbent may be assigned other duties, as is deemed necessary and required.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE:
The incumbent will be organized under the Land Resources Department and reports directly to the Land Resources Director, or other management designee. The Land Resources Department is organized under Sustainable Resources, which constitutes the Miccosukee Environmental Protection Agency Departments (i.e., Water Resources, Land Resources, Fish & Wildlife) and Grants Department. Sustainable Resources is led by the Chief Sustainability Officer.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public administration, project management, or a related field is required, though an advanced degree is preferred. Demonstrated experience in managing federally funded environmental or climate-related projects is highly preferred. Familiarity with EPA grants and climate action planning is considered an asset. WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is based on Miccosukee Tribal Lands and may require occasional field travel to project sites or regional meetings. Work is typically conducted in an office setting, though field inspections or public engagement activities may require outdoor work in varied environmental conditions. The incumbent must be able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail. Remote and hybrid working privileges can be extended with Business Council approval and will be subject to Land Resources Director oversight.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of climate action planning, climate pollution reduction strategies, and environmental policy.
- Demonstrated experience in federal grant management, accounting, and compliance reporting, preferably involving EPA programs.
- Proficiency in project planning software and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Teams).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, inter-departmental coordination, and community outreach.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to upholding Tribal values, priorities, and environmental sovereignty.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Prior experience managing EPA or other federal environmental grants, with specific familiarity with CPRG or related climate programs.
- Experience working with Tribal governments or Indigenous communities.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, energy transition policy, or GHG emissions tracking methodologies.
- Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus but not required.
