About The Opportunity

The Low Carbon Energy Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting the Sîpihkisôwin (Resilience): Low Carbon Energy Program by serving as the primary liaison between Métis citizens and the Low Carbon Energy Program, which transitions Métis households to the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficient retrofits & new builds, and/or low-carbon heating technologies and practices.

This position is responsible for guiding applicants through the program application process, addressing inquiries, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring timely processing of applications. Second, the position supports citizens’ progress through their project, working towards opportunities for cost-saving and alleviating administrative burdens. Additionally, the Coordinator will handle tasks related to the program’s operations and collaborate closely with internal teams and across ministries to facilitate the successful implementation of low carbon energy initiatives at Métis Nation British Columbia.

This position works to bridge socioeconomic gaps and increase overall well-being for Métis is BC through supporting low carbon energy programming, while also working with Canada toward the common goals of GHG emission reductions and moving toward net-zero emissions.

Duties And Responsibilities

Client Engagement and Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for program applications, providing timely and accurate information about program eligibility, requirements, and processes.
  • Assist applicants in completing and submitting application forms, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person meetings, offering guidance and support throughout the application process.
  • Coordinate with other MNBC program staff to facilitate referrals and assist applicants who may benefit from complementary supports or services.
  • Research and refer clients to external rebate and low carbon energy subsidy programs.
  • Support clients’ progress through their project, working towards opportunities for cost-saving and alleviating administrative burdens.
  • Participate in engagement sessions, workshops, and information sessions to promote low carbon energy programming and engage with potential applicants.
  • Follows and implements program outline of ‘Sîpihkisôwin (Resilience): Métis Climate Action in British Columbia Engagement Report’.

Application Review and Processing

  • Review submitted applications for completion and compliance with program criteria.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to address any issues or discrepancies in applications.
  • Maintain accurate records of application statuses and communicate updates to applicants as needed.
  • Identify common challenges faced by applicants and propose solutions to streamline the application process.

Administrative Support

  • Manage and update the program’s database, ensuring all applicant information is current and secure.
  • Engage with contractors to confirm project details, clarify documentation, and ensure invoices and proof of work meet program requirements.
  • Maintain current knowledge on external low carbon energy and rebate programs and opportunities.
  • Prepare reports and summaries on application trends, common issues, and feedback for program improvement.
  • Assist in the development and distribution of promotional materials, guides, and resources related to the program.
  • Collaborate with the Low Carbon Energy Manager to refine administrative processes and enhance program efficiency.
  • Reviews and records program outcomes and operations through initial ‘pilot’ year of deployment with the goal of implementing future iterative improvements.
  • Supports the creation of Progress and Financial Reports as required per funder.

Other

  • Participates in committees and project teams as required.
  • Undertakes related duties as assigned, consistent with the job grade of the position.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • Regular/ occasional attendance at meetings/ events that may require work and travel outside of normal business hours.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in environmental studies, energy management, public administration, political science, or related field from a recognized, post-secondary institution.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in program delivery, client services, or administrative support roles, with experience independently managing moderately complex processes and resolving service delivery issues.
  • A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and a basic understanding of information management and technology concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise projects and collaborate well with people.
  • Strong administrative skills, including scheduling, correspondence management, and document preparation.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and perform multiple projects effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct oneself with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Professional phone etiquette and strong people skills for effective collaboration within a team environment and collaborate across departments.
  • Demonstrates analytical, interpretative, and critical thinking skills.

  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, database(s), and/or software required by the role.
  • A combination of relevant experience, education, and training may be considered.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of the historical and contemporary contributions made by Métis people in B.C.
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Class 5 driver’s licence may be required.
  • The position may require the completion of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
