Head of Product and Customer
Company Description
Mai te hiku ki te taurapa, whitikina e te rā
From the tail of the fish to the tail of the waka, shines the sun
Drawn from our company waiata, this kīanga reflects our journey across Aotearoa — one waka, powered by the natural forces that sustain us. From one end of the motu to the other, Meridian generates renewable energy from the winds of Tāwhirimātea, the waters of Tangaroa, and the warmth of Tama-nui-te-rā. Meridian is Aotearoa’s largest renewable electricity producer.
Together, our two brands, Meridian and Powershop retail electricity to more than 400,000 homes, businesses and farms across New Zealand. Now that’s a pretty impressive combo!
Mō te tūranga | About the role
This is a rare opportunity to shape customer growth at the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand’s largest renewable electricity generator. As Head of Product and Customer, you’ll lead Meridian Retail’s Customer Growth Practice, bringing together product growth, customer and user experience, brand, and go-to-market capability to create differentiated customer value and deliver sustainable growth across Meridian and Powershop.
You’ll play a pivotal role in lifting the way we attract, engage, retain and grow customers, while building the strategies, frameworks and specialist capability that enable our Retail Value Streams to deliver stronger customer and commercial outcomes. This is not a traditional command-and-control leadership role. Operating in Meridian Retail’s agile model, you’ll lead through influence, expertise and collaboration setting direction, building capability, and helping cross-functional teams focus their energy where it creates the most value.
A key focus will be elevating the Meridian brand, revitalising the Powershop brand and customer proposition, and embedding Product-Led Growth disciplines that help us learn faster, act on insight, and create experiences New Zealanders value. If you’re a strategic, commercially sharp, customer-obsessed leader who knows how to connect brand, product, experience and growth - and you’re energised by building modern capability in a purpose-led business this could be the role that lets you make a serious impact.

In this role, you’ll lead the practice that brings together product growth, customer experience, user experience, brand and go-to-market capability to help Meridian Retail grow in a way that is customer-led, commercially focused and future fit.

A key part of your role will be helping our Retail Value Streams focus on the opportunities that matter most using insight, data, experimentation and commercial discipline to improve acquisition, engagement, retention and customer lifetime value.
You’ll also lead the evolution of our brand and product-led growth capability, including elevating the Meridian brand, revitalising Powershop’s proposition, and building modern go-to-market practices that help us launch, learn and scale with confidence.
