This role is based in our office 3 days a week, with flexibility for the remainder.

  • Leading and coaching a team of Small Commercial experts (approx. 4–10 direct reports), building a commercially focused, high-performing culture across new business and account management.
  • Owning the growth and retention strategy for the small commercial portfolio — driving new connections and customer retention against targets.
  • Partnering with Large Commercial and Wholesale teams to refine and deliver our small commercial strategy.
  • Driving performance through active pipeline management, deal coaching and field support.
  • Building and managing relationships with commercial partners (brokers, referral and channel partners) to generate quality leads and support mutual growth, including negotiating fair, compliant commercial terms.
  • Providing real-time solutions to resourcing and service issues to protect customer outcomes.
  • Supporting team development through regular coaching and career conversations, and working with Sales Operations and Customer Experience to address performance concerns.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of small business sales and service tools and frameworks.

Tāu ka kawe mai | What you'll bring:

  • Experience in B2B sales, business development or account management leadership, ideally leading multi-channel teams including BDMs.

  • Strong commercial and sales acumen, with sound understanding of B2B sales and small business needs.
  • Experience building and negotiating partner or channel relationships (advantageous).
  • High emotional intelligence — empathetic, collaborative, and a strong communicator who can simplify complex matters.
  • Energy sector experience is a plus, as is a coaching or leadership qualification.
