Pay: $120,000 - $130,000 per year, dependent on experience and education

Job Overview:
The Director of Business Development reports to the Managing Director of Emerging Climatetech and leads the Business Development team at MassCEC. The Business Development team helps MA based climatetech companies identify & engage with key programs & partners to accelerate the commercialization of their technology and growth of their business. The Business Development team provides this support across three offerings:
- Climatetech Tax Credit Program: Awarding tax credits to MA based climatetech companies for job creation and capital expenditures on climatetech facilities.
- Business Front Door: Helping MA based climatetech companies to efficiently navigate state-funded tax credits, grants, and other financial programs.
- Climatetech Concierge: Helping MA based climatetech companies to identify and engage with key commercialization partners.
Job Responsibilities:
Oversee the strategic vision and administration of MassCEC’s Climatetech Tax Credit Program
- Continue to develop strategic vision and key objectives for MassCEC’s Climatetech Tax Credit Program with executive input & oversight from MassCEC’s Chief Climate Officer
- Contribute to writing standard operating procedure and draft accompanying materials for administering the program in collaboration with the Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development, Massachusetts Department of Revenue, and Massachusetts Executive Office for Administration & Finance
- Full deployment of funds in Year 1 and continue to build demand for successive years
- Serve as the primary administrator and operator of the Program
- Provide leadership & oversight to accompanying members of the Business Development team, pertaining to the identification of key objectives, leading & lagging indicators of success, and operationalizing of key activities
Oversee MassCEC’s participation in the Executive Office of Economic Development’s (EOED) Business Front Door (BFD) initiative
- Represent MassCEC in the initial planning & development phases of BFD, which EOED leads with support from accompanying Team MA economic development agencies
- Execute the implementation of BFD processes & materials within MassCEC operations & assets Docusign Envelope ID: F02838FA-96EB-4061-B492-42C167456443
- Train accompanying members of the Business Development team to serve as primary operators of MassCEC’s BFD involvement
- Provide leadership & oversight to accompanying members of the Business Development team, pertaining to the identification of key objectives, leading & lagging indicators of success, and operationalizing of key activities
Oversee the strategic vision of MassCEC’s Climatetech Concierge service and serve as the primary operator of the service
- Develop strategic vision for the Climatetech Concierge, namely key objectives, and evolve the vision over time per the changing macroeconomic landscape
- Define and maintain key results for measuring success of the Service, including both leading and lagging indicators, and implement highly efficient methods for tracking
- Write and maintain standard operating procedures for key activities within the Service, including case origination and servicing
- Regarding case origination, operationalize collaboration with other MassCEC departments as well as Team MA partner organizations
- Regarding case servicing, serve as primary operator of the service with support from the other members of the Business Development team
- Define roles & responsibilities within servicing for accompanying members of the Business Development team and provide training for enabling them to fulfill those roles & responsibilities
Position Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Education:
- Minimum undergraduate university degree
- MBA or advanced degree with focus on finance and/or climate/clean energy preferred
Experience:
- 7 - 10 years relevant work experience; at least 2+ years in climatetech
- Prior experience in climatetech or demonstrated ability to learn a complex industry quickly
- Prior experience in corporate development, strategy consulting, or leadership role at an early-stage climatetech company are preferred.
- Finance management or accounting background and/or previous Government roles, are a bonus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team – crafting strategic vision, and establishing management routines
- Firm understanding of key success factors for early-stage, climatetech companies
- Prior experience establishing funding programs and cultivating strategic partnerships
- Strong finance management skills preferred
- Ability to collaborate with other departments within the organization and within the wider administration
- Strong public speaking skills
