About This Position

Ipswich River Nature Camp is seeking individuals to foster experiential nature-based learning for campers. We aim to promote positive youth development, stewardship for the environment, and a respectful and inclusive safe space for all our campers.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Participate in and oversee canoe trips
• Prepare, maintain, and inspect canoe trip materials
• Interact with campers and direct arrival and lunchtime group activities
• Remain and assist with the group assigned for specific times
• Inventory and maintain camp first aid materials
• Assist with setup and cleanup of the program areas
• Coordinate extended day programming

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

Required qualifications as per Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) regulations, American Camp Association standards and Mass Audubon Policy:

• At least 18 years of age
• Experience in leading nature activities in a camp setting
• Current certification in First Aid and CPR
• Certification in Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety-Canoe (we will provide this training)
• Provide documented proof of immunity or vaccination record as mandated by MA DPH; complete camp health form and waiver
• Be willing to manage a group outdoors for six hours a day in most weather conditions
• Physically access sanctuary terrain easily by foot
• Ability to effectively interact with others, especially children, in camp’s youth-centered environment
• Ability to adapt to changes in schedule and work assignment
• Ability to work cooperatively and independently
• Ability to paddle a canoe and lift canoes on and off of canoe racks

Compensation & Benefits

This position’s base salary range is $18.28-$20.50/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm
Camp Training Week: June 19-23, 2023
Camp Weeks: June 26-August 18, 2023

All Mass Audubon Camp Staff undergo mandatory training prior to interacting with campers. Training includes: Natural History, Lesson Planning, Behavior Management, Games, and so much more.
