About This Position

The Adventure Director supervises the ropes course staff and all aspects of Wildwood’s challenge course programs including high and low elements, and teambuilding activities.

This role also serves as the Co-Director for Wildwood’s Environmental Leadership Program. The ELP Co-Directors live and work directly with 15-17 year-old program participants. ELP Co-Directors oversee all aspects of the program and are responsible for creating a rich and meaningful curriculum to help teen participants become strong voices for conservation

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Train and supervise ropes course staff
    • Train all staff in their rope’s duties and responsibilities
    • Verify skills of staff prior to allowing them to assume ropes course duties
    • Train ropes staff in emergency procedures
    • Conduct periodic in-service trainings and skill-building workshops
    • Ensure staff perform their duties appropriately at all times
    • Give constructive, supportive feedback to ropes course staff
  • Deliver and supervise safe and high-quality ropes course programs
  • Pass a skills assessment upon arrival at Wildwood
  • Facilitate ropes course programs as scheduled
  • Monitor all ropes programs to ensure safety practices are in-line with recognized industry standards and Wildwood’s Local Operating Procedures
  • Provide feedback to the Program Coordinator about improving ropes programs and LOPs
  • Maintain an organized facility and keep accurate written records including rope logs and pre- and post-season checklists
  • Lead high-quality activities that contribute to ELP’s leadership development and conservation education
    • Assist with planning both first-year and second-year ELP programs.
    • Facilitate recreational opportunities and relaxing times for ELP’s.
    • Facilitate high-quality workshops on group dynamics, leadership skills, nature and conservation.
    • Lead a multi-day offsite camping trip focusing on community and leadership.

Qualifications

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age
  • Have 40 days of prior documented experience facilitating a ropes course program.
  • Hold a valid Driver’s license and current First Aid and CPR certifications.
  • Strong leadership skills and an understanding of leadership theory required.
  • Ropes course certification from a nationally accredited certifying organization is preferred.
  • Ability to produce a ropes course facilitation portfolio outlining hours of experience with individual elements a plus.· Must possess a love of nature that can be articulated to participants.

Compensation & Benefits

This position’s base salary range is $525 a week; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

Additional Information

This is a full time position.

Camp runs for 12 weeks, start date is June 1, 2022 and end date is August 28, 2022

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
