About This Position

Are you passionate about food justice and equitable access to affordable, organic vegetables? The Boston Nature Center is hiring capable, enthusiastic staff member to support farm stands in three different locations: Mattapan Farmers Market, Nubian Square Farmers Market and Egleston Farmers Market. The ideal candidate will also support Mass Audubon’s commitment to climate change education, equity, and justice and bring a diverse range of experiences, expressions, and views to their work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set-up farmstand each week.
  • Work with Education staff to develop and deliver science and nature-based educational programs to summer programs, community groups and families.
  • Facilitate/lead groups of 10-15 program participants in hands-on, outdoor, and nature-based learning experiences at the Boston Nature Center, Boston green spaces, and schools.
  • Assist with the planning and development of new programs and activities as needed.
  • Monitor program participants in all types of outdoor environments and ensure the safety and comfort of all participants.
  • Maintain a professional work environment, which includes equipment cleanup and storage of program gear and materials.
  • Convey Mass Audubon’s mission, Action Agenda and educational philosophies throughout all programs.

Must Have’s:

  • A passion for food justice and climate change.
  • A love for fresh vegetables, great communication, strong organization, and customer service skills are needed for this role.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Skills and ability to work with diverse groups, exercise cultural humility, and implement best practices in inclusion.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and work collaboratively, as a positive contributor to the team.

Nice to Have’s:

  • Fluency in English/Spanish (or other languages) is desirable.
  • Preference given to candidates from the Boston community.

Compensation & Benefits


This position’s base salary range is $18 - $20; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements.

This is not a benefits eligible position.

Additional Information

Work Schedule:

This position is Saturdays 9 am to 4 pm.

This is a seasonal position, scheduled to end October 1, 2022 with the option to transition into a school year, per diem position.

Other Requirements:

Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.

COVID-19 Considerations

Mass Audubon requires that all staff, regardless of their work location, disclose their vaccination status. Proof of vaccination status will be required immediately upon hire. This should also include a booster shot if it has been 5 months since you were initially vaccinated.
