Sr. Powertrain CAE Engineer, NVH
Leading the future in luxury electric and mobility
At Lucid, we set out to introduce the most captivating, luxury electric vehicles that elevate the human experience and transcend the perceived limitations of space, performance, and intelligence. Vehicles that are intuitive, liberating, and designed for the future of mobility.
We plan to lead in this new era of luxury electric by returning to the fundamentals of great design – where every decision we make is in service of the individual and environment. Because when you are no longer bound by convention, you are free to define your own experience.
Come work alongside some of the most accomplished minds in the industry. Beyond providing competitive salaries, we’re providing a community for innovators who want to make an immediate and significant impact. If you are driven to create a better, more sustainable future, then this is the right place for you.
The Role
- Assess powertrain structural and acoustic behavior for new electric vehicle programs by interfacing with various business stakeholders.
- Strategize powertrain system NVH targets to meet program’s analytical requirements.
- Collaborate with product stakeholders to establish new test and analysis methodologies, resolve issues and optimize the powertrain for noise at both component & vehicle level
- Support the development of powertrain systems, components, driveline systems and engine mounts by conducting linear and nonlinear NVH simulations.
- Formulate new methods to analyze powertrain noise and perform design-driven CAE analyses to support programs’ analytical sign-off.
- Monitor and analyze various NVH error states using both rigid body and flexible body methods as part of these transient analyses.
- Execute and manage projects pertaining to the development of new powertrain NVH analysis methods, to identify and resolve issues like whine, clunk, and low-speed torque shudder.
- Collaborate closely with the NVH testing team and other business stakeholders, and present CAE results to management for program analytical assessments against targets while facilitating design approvals.
Qualifications
- 5 + years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent work experience. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong fundamentals in mechanical vibrations and CAE NVH experience.
- Experience with solvers like OptiStruct, Nastran and Abaqus, and pre-processors like ANSA and Hypermesh.
- Good knowledge of fundamental physics and structural engineering principles.
- Good knowledge of Automotive structural and acoustic solutions for Noise and vibration design requirements.
Preferred
- Experience of rotating machinery, for example engines, motors and pumps.
- Experience with powertrain CAE structural and acoustic analyses of internal combustion engines, electric motors and transmission systems.
- Worked on powertrain-specific NVH phenomenon like electromagnetic and gear whine.
- Experience with powertrain structural optimization and powertrain isolation techniques.
- Good understanding of frequency-domain analysis techniques like FFT, DFT and wavelet analysis; Experience with order analysis.
- Exposure to testing methods like modal analysis, vibration signature analysis, sound power analysis and transfer path analysis.
- Good understanding of acoustic metrics like tonality, tone-to-noise ratio and prominence ratio.
