We are seeking a Senior Engineer to take technical ownership of battery cell performance initiatives across product programs. In this role, you will be responsible for driving performance optimization of high-current use cases, like fast charging and short-duration high current (dis)charge, of battery cells in Lucid's products.
Role
- Design and execute test plans to optimize cell performance in Lucid's products
- Work with external suppliers to ensure cells meet expected performance targets and specifications
- Work cross functionally to understand challenges beyond cell limits and identify the most effective strategies for performance optimization
- Root cause failures when cells are used near their, explore innovative solutions to enhance the durability and reliability of the cell at different stages of life
- Benchmark new battery cell technologies and provide insights on the relationship between cell design choices and cell performance
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience running cell tests and working with commercial lithium-ion cells on Maccor or Arbin cyclers
- Strong understanding of physics governing battery cell performance, including electrochemical and thermal phenomena
- Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both experts and general audiences. Can effectively visualize and communicate data.
- Strong data analysis capability. Track record of automating workflows to improve efficiency and scalability scalingof analyses, especially for large, real-world data sets
- Self-starter who can proactively seek out connections, tools, and solutions to solve complex technical challenges
Preferred
- Working experience in EV battery industries and/or collaborating with Tier 1 cell suppliers
- Familiarity with cylindrical, prismatic, and other commercial cell form factors. Experience tearing down these cells is especially valuable
- Expertise in LFP battery materials
- Experience in usage of Simulink for modeling and controls
- Demonstrated mindset for efficiency — simplifying workflows, automating repetitive tasks, and scaling impact.
Education
- PhD
- Masters with 3+ years of relevant work experience or
- Bachelors with 5+ years of relevant work experience
