Intern, Vehicle Engineering, Summer 2026
As the Intern, Vehicle Engineer, you must possess a strong understanding of CAD design and mechanical engineering fundamentals. Role/Responsibilities:
- Own one or more technical projects related to Vehicle Engineering
- Design, create and test with prototype parts including 3D prints to improve existing designs and validate their own concepts
- Validate the designs of components for release and work closely on a cross functional team to improve existing designs
- Apply data-driven decision making in a collaborative environment to solve complex problems and questions
- Support other engineers on the team in data collection and analysis, component/system design, vehicle modelling and simulation, project management and logistics, physical part testing and validation, and hands-on prototyping

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with at least one 3D CAD program (CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Creo, etc) DIY design portfolio of scholastic and extracurricular projects, 3Dx or CATIA is preferred
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals
- Basic understanding of how to make plastic and metal parts: injection molding tools, 3D-printing prototypes, die castings, materials and resins, sheet metal manufacturing and other fabrication processes
- A mechanically oriented mindset, thinking about how things work, how they are made, how they are assembled and how they benefit from design
- Hands-on experience making or fixing parts to improve how they work, how much they cost or how easy they are to make
- Great technical communication skills in both thought process, design details and analysis. A successful candidate will speak with external suppliers and make presentations for internal topics to name a few of their key tasks
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative and cross functional environment
- Self starter mentality, with a strong ability to troubleshoot issues and have strong communication skills
Nice to Have:
- Related work experience in a previous engineering internship in product design or past intern experience in Auto or similar is a plus
- Hands on mechanical engineering experience
- Experience in the design and validation of structural components
- Experience with fabrication and building prototypes is a major plus
- Experience with scripting tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++, etc.) for scientific computing and/or data analysis methods (e.g., signal processing, optimization, data representation, etc.)
- Participation and leadership in Formula SAE Electric, Baja SAE, Solar Car or other extracurricular automotive teams is a major plus!
Education:
- Field(s) of study: Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design or related fields
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree program at an accredited university
- Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS)
Program Information:
- Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
- Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
- Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment.
- Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $35 to $51 (subject to changes).
- Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.
- Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
- Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
- Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.
- Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
