Team Description:
The Materials team at Lucid is committed to optimizing materials and processes to help deliver the best vehicles in the world and create exceptional customer experiences that drive the world forward. Team scope includes materials selection, developing material and joining specifications that unambiguously define requirements, material characterization, issue resolution, and material development. Team purview includes sheet metal, castings, extrusions, rivets, flow drill screws, adhesives, and welding.
We are currently seeking a Materials and Joining Intern. This position requires a passionate student with a basic understanding ofprocess-structure-property relationships in metallic materials and a passion for working on EV's. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
Role/Responsibilities:
- Lead verification, qualification, and optimization of welded joints.
- Conduct internal validation of materials and manage supplier qualifications.
- Use a first-principles approach to assist in the development of new materials and/or processes that enable design and product optimization.
- Troubleshoot, root cause, and implement sustainable corrective actions on emergent materials issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of process-structure-property relationships for metallic materials.
- In-depth understanding of property evaluations using a first principles approach.
- Hands-on experience with standard material laboratory equipment and metal testing procedures.
Nice to Have:
- Working knowledge of structural welding methods and practices.
Education:
- Field(s) of study: Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, or other relevant fields
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's Degree program at an accredited university
- Proof of enrollment in current or into next program (MS)
Program Information:
- Timing: May- August, or June-September pending class schedules.
- Duration of Internship: Our internship program is 12 weeks; the end date is flexible based on individual needs.
- Work Location & Environment: This position will be in Newark, CA, and is fully in-person. You must be prepared to start onsite for your first day of employment. The working environment will be a mix of lab & office work.
- Compensation: Student compensation is based on location and current degree level, non-negotiable ranging from $40 to $60 (subject to changes).
- Relocation: May be provided on a case to case basis.
- Housing/Transportation: You must provide your own living arrangements and transportation in the local area.
- Background Check: All offers of employment are contingent on clearing a background check.
- Drug Screening: All offers of employment are contingent on passing a drug screen.
- Medical benefits: Dental, vision, and medical on day 1 for all interns working full-time.
- Visa Sponsorship: Lucid may but is not obligated to sponsor foreign national employees requiring company sponsorship for U.S employment authorization.
