We are currently in search of a Technical Specialist Body Structures Engineer for Plant Vehicle Engineering in Casa Grande, AZ, focusing on Body-in-White (BIW) systems. Our ideal candidate should possess a proactive mindset, tackling tasks with energy and determination. We expect candidates to showcase expertise in their field, a rapid learning ability, and a commitment to achieving perfection within a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support for launch activities and production ramp-up across Body Structure.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all issues identified during builds, resolving them and seeking support from DREs and Managers when needed.
  • Ensure the delivery of Body engineering requirements from the prototype phase to stable production.
  • Develop testing plans to validate design concepts and conduct physical tests to confirm performance targets.
  • Assess competing sub-system design approaches using various development tools (DFMEA, fault tree, decision matrices, etc.).
  • Apply broad engineering knowledge to address problems during Prototype and Production builds.
  • Identify the root cause of test failures and production issues.
  • Communicate with the design team and suppliers for DFM feedback and tool development.
  • Support continuous product and process improvement initiatives.
  • Challenge industry and internal standards for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that lessons from root cause actions are communicated to core and advanced engineering teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts in engineering management, focusing on quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Coordinate virtual engineering and physical validation testing activities for designs.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure an efficient process sequence and build quality.
  • Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Design, Product Development, Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Stamping, and Suppliers on tool buy-offs and secondary component changes.
  • Mentor junior engineers through the design process.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent, with at least 8+ years of relevant engineering experience in Mechanical parts and assemblies’ design.
  • Expertise in automotive Body Structures systems and sub-systems at an OEM or supplier is desirable.
  • Good working level experience in various mechanical joining techniques like SPR, welding, Spot weld, fasteners etc.
  • Experience in delivering multiple vehicle programs to production.
  • Familiarity with castings, the extrusion process, stampings, and their advantages and limitations.
  • Experience in the full life cycle from concept to prototype to full production.

Advantageous:

  • Proven track record of successful product launches.
  • Six sigma, EIT certification.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD skills, particularly with CATIA V5/V6 or similar software.
  • Hands-on practical experience in prototype assembly and production assembly, with a willingness to assemble your own parts.
  • Project leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a determined problem-solving attitude using an Engineering first principles approach.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes applicable to body structures, such as castings, extrusions, cold and hot form stampings, and their advantages and limitations.
