Lead UI/UX Designer
Low Carbon Materials Hub is a Melbourne-based, construction sustainability tech startup backed by Antler and Archangel Ventures.
Help us redesign how the construction industry makes sustainable decisions.
Construction is one of the world’s largest industries, and one of the biggest opportunities for decarbonisation.
At Low Carbon Materials Hub, we are building technology that helps architects, engineers and project teams make faster, smarter and lower-carbon decisions through automated carbon assessments, material intelligence and design optimisation.
We are looking for a founding Lead UI/UX Designer who can do more than design beautiful interfaces.
We want someone who can take complex problems, turn them into simple product experiences, and work closely with our founders and engineers to bring those experiences all the way to production.
Why is this role different?
This is a high-ownership role. You will help shape the product experience from the ground up and influencing how the platform looks, feels and works as we scale.
You will work with the development team to:
- Own the product experience end-to-end, from early concepts and user flows through to polished interfaces and implementation
- Turn complex engineering and sustainability data into intuitive, simple user experiences
- Shape our design system, components and product standards
- Work directly with founders, with very little distance between an idea and something shipped
- Ship real product across both design and front-end
Who we are looking for?
You are a product designer at heart, but you are comfortable crossing the line between design and front-end development. You care about the quality of what gets shipped, not just what sits in Figma.
Ideally, you have:
- 6+ years of experience across product design, UI/UX and front-end development
- A strong portfolio of real, shipped digital products
- Excellent visual and product design judgement and ability to explain the reasoning behind them
- Strong experience with Figma or modern design systems and component libraries such as Storybook
- Hands-on experience with React, Next.js and TypeScript
- Confidence working autonomously in a fast-moving, early-stage environment
- A bias toward action, experimentation and iteration
You will thrive here if you:
- Want meaningful ownership rather than a narrow design remit
- Enjoy building products from an early stage
- Like solving messy, real-world problems
- Are comfortable moving between strategy, UX, visual design and implementation
- Prefer shipping and learning over endless process
- Want your work to have a visible impact on both the product and the company
What do we offer?
- Competitive base salary
- Performance bonus tied to impact
- Equity options to share in the value you help create
- High autonomy and direct access to company leadership
- The opportunity to shape the product, design culture and company at an early stage
- Work focused on a meaningful global challenge: decarbonising the built environment
Up for the challenge?
We care less about polished case-study storytelling and more about the quality of your work and the thinking behind it. If you want to own what you design, work closely with the people building it, and help shape a product from the ground up, we would love to hear from you!
