Low Carbon Materials Hub is a Melbourne-based, construction sustainability tech startup backed by Antler and Archangel Ventures.

Help us build the technology that redesigns how the construction industry makes sustainable decisions. Construction is one of the world’s largest industries, and one of the biggest opportunities for decarbonisation.

At Low Carbon Materials Hub, we are building technology that helps architects, engineers and project teams make faster, smarter and lower-carbon decisions through automated carbon assessments, material intelligence and design optimisation.

We are looking for a founding Full Stack Lead Developer, based in Malaysia, who can do more than write good code. We want someone who can take complex problems, turn them into robust and scalable systems, and work closely with our founders and designers to bring those systems all the way to production.

Why is this role different?

This is a high-ownership role. You will help shape the product and platform from the ground up, influencing how it is architected, built and scaled as we grow.

You will work with the founding team to:

  1. Own product development end-to-end, from architecture and data models through to APIs, interfaces and deployment
  2. Turn complex engineering and sustainability data into fast, reliable and intuitive product features
  3. Shape our engineering standards, codebase structure and development practices
  4. Work directly with founders, with very little distance between an idea and something shipped
  5. Ship real product across both back-end and front-end

Who we are looking for?

You are an engineer at heart, specialising in AI/LLM workflows and backend development, but you are comfortable owning the whole stack, from database to UI. You care about the quality of what gets shipped, not just what passes the tests.

Ideally, you have:

  • 6+ years shipping production software across frontend and backend, with at least 2 years as the most senior engineer on a team or codebase
  • Deep proficiency in TypeScript, React/Next.js, Node.js and PostgreSQL
  • You have shipped LLM-powered features or agentic workflows to real users, using tool calling, RAG, structured outputs, evals, and handled cost, latency and failure in production
  • Familiarity with Mastra, OpenRouter and LLM SDKs is a strong advantage
  • You use AI coding tools daily, understand their limitations, and know how to leverage them effectively
  • You have opinions about architecture with reasoning, not “it depends” with no follow-through
  • You are comfortable building from ambiguity, moving fast, and making tough decisions without rigid specifications or layers of management

You will thrive here if you:

  • Love turning vague, messy problems into simple, reliable systems
  • Care about users, not just code, and are happy to talk to them directly
  • Want real ownership, from the first schema to the 3am incident
  • Enjoy working fast and closely with founders and designers
  • Challenge assumptions, including the founders’, and push for better
  • Want to set the bar for every engineer who joins after you

What do we offer?

  1. Competitive base salary
  2. Performance bonus tied to impact
  3. Equity options to share in the value you help create
  4. High autonomy and direct access to company leadership
  5. The opportunity to shape the product, engineering culture and company at an early stage
  6. Work focused on a meaningful global challenge: decarbonising the built environment

Up for the challenge?

We care less about polished CVs and more about the quality of your work and the thinking behind it. If you want to own what you build, work closely with the people shaping it, and help build a product from the ground up, we would love to hear from you!
