About the Role


You’ll be applying your technical skills to help Loam Bio turn the world's croplands into giant carbon sinks. Our technology builds stable carbon in cropping soils, enabling farmers to improve the health of their soil and access new revenue streams.


Reporting to the Product Manager: Data and Internal Tools, you will be a core member of the team who are responsible for software and data at Loam Bio. We support a diverse range of teams and topics:

  • Scientists developing new products in the lab
  • Field teams running trials in greenhouses and the field
  • Commercial teams delivering carbon projects with growers
  • Sales and marketing teams helping growers engage with us


Day to day we work with many different technologies and platforms and you’ll have frequent opportunities to grow your skills across engineering, data and cloud. You’ll contribute to the design and development of greenfield systems, while maintaining and scaling what currently exists.

Independently deliver large features and components, using code that is clear, concise, tested and easily understood by others.

Improve product development cycles with higher quality, more reliable software.

Lead architectural decisions that shape what and how we build.

Ensure Loam software scalability, long-term stability, and ability to adapt to future business needs, reducing tech debt.

Collaborate with the product manager to define feature requirements. Translate these into deliverables, including wireframes / UX flows, and task specifications.

Translate product vision into clear, deliverables that enhance user experience, streamline development, and accelerate time to market.

Drive continuous improvements in our development practices and tooling.

Increase developer productivity, accelerate release cycles, and enhance overall team efficiency and quality.

Mentor and guide team members and colleagues, helping them grow.

Builds a stronger, more capable team, improves retention, and fosters a culture of knowledge sharing and future leadership.

  • Keep up to date with new technologies, sharing this knowledge with the team.
  • Proactively fix technical debt, keeping our code clean and maintainable.


Skills and Experiences

Essential


  • You care about the business value and user experience of what you are developing, as well as the technical aspects.
  • Solid understanding of software design principles and architectures.
  • Experience in TypeScript, Python or similar programming languages.
  • Developed web apps using React frameworks like React Router, Next.js.
  • Some experience in data engineering, building data platforms or analytical systems
  • You have designed, deployed and operated production databases.


Desirable


  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code.
  • Experience in product engineering
  • Previous startup experience, particularly in the climate tech space.
  • Previous experience in agriculture or biotechnology.
