About the Role:

The Soil Scientist will play a key role in developing predictive laboratory-based soil and biochemical assays that will guide product development and validate field/greenhouse experiments. These assays will have a particular focus on linking microbial functions, metabolomics and soil outcomes including soil carbon sequestration and nutrient cycling. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on novel projects under the Soil Science Program, innovating product discovery and collaborating with academic institutions when necessary to fulfil technical requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimise laboratory-based soil and biochemical assays.
  • Design and execute experiments to investigate mechanisms of soil carbon sequestration and soil microbial functions.
  • Utilise your expertise in microbiology and soil science to analyse and interpret experimental data.
  • Work closely with a diverse team of scientists in Australia and the USA to ensure project success.
  • Collaborate with academic institutions, if necessary, to address technical requirements and enhance project outcomes.
  • Contribute to the innovation and advancement of soil biochemistry research.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of soil science and microbiology, particularly in metabolomics and soil carbon science.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, data analysis, and results.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Soil Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in laboratory techniques and soil and/or microbial manipulation experiments.
  • Proficiency in developing and optimising assays related to soil biochemistry.
  • Experience with metabolomics is strongly desired, with strong understanding in microbial metabolism, physiology and growth conditions is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, drive innovation, and take initiative.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
