What You’ll do (the role)

Summary

Lightsource bp’s Commercial Engineering Team provides technical support across all areas of the global organisation and for projects being developed across the globe.

Contributing to and supporting all areas of Lightsource bp’s Commercial Engineering Team, focusing on Wind and being accountable for assigned projects’ technical aspects across phases: early development, pre-construction, and projects in construction.


Duties and responsibilities

  • Focusing on Wind projects in Australia and New Zealand (primarily, but also internationally), support the Project Development process (including Acquisitions), across all technical aspects.
  • Lead the Technical Due Diligence (Acquisition and/or Financing) and manage internal and external service providers.
  • Undertake Energy Yield Assessments (EYA).
  • Undertake optioneering analysis and detailed LCOE optimisation for new projects.
  • Support the site-specific WTG selection exercise and negotiations with OEMs, following optioneering and analysis.
  • Support the assessment of new Wind technologies.
  • Lead the development of Basic Design, including instructing layouts, micro-siting, SLDs, civils & structures, and BOP equipment and systems.
  • Lead the development of TSA, BoP and/or EPC Contract Technical Appendices.
  • Support Project Managers as needed across all technical aspects during construction period, Works Completion, Commissioning and COD.
  • Coordinate and manage Technical Advisors (OE, LTA, etc) locally and internationally.
  • Review TSA and BoP and/or EPC bids, reports, orders, etc for compliance with Owner’s Requirements.
  • Lead the technical negotiations with OEMs and BoP, EPC, O&M Contractors.
  • Undertake site visits to both greenfield sites and sites under construction.
  • Support on engineering analysis of curtailment, performance evaluation of new technologies, etc.

Who we’re looking for

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) technologies and constituent components (blades, tower, hub, tower, nacelle, gearbox, foundations, etc).
  • Strong knowledge of TSA, BoP, EPC, O&M contracts, including Technical Appendices.
  • Good understanding of PPAs, Grid Connection Agreements and technical inputs to Financial Models.
  • Good experience in undertaking Energy Yield Assessment (EYA) and detailed knowledge of pertinent factors affecting Windfarm performance.
  • Good knowledge of Wind resource assessment methodologies and of simulation software including WAsP, WindPRO or similar (AutoCAD, ArcGIS or other Wind or Battery (BESS) modelling software is a plus).
  • Good knowledge of the main players in the industry (OEMs, Technical Advisors, investors, EPCs, TSO/DNOs, etc).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Masters in Renewable Energy or related field.

Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the Wind Energy sector, working on large-scale windfarms, either on the OEM, Developer, EPC/BoP Contractor or Technical Advisor side.
  • Experience in BESS and Solar PV technologies, including hybrid projects, is a plus.
