What You’ll do
Provide technical expertise and oversight at several active utility-scale solar construction projects and operating plants throughout the United States. Interact with staff and contractors at all levels while taking a proactive approach to safety and compliance. Represent the Lightsource bp organization in ensuring HSE provisions are in place and the job sites and offices are following appropriate codes and standards. Work closely with the rest of the Americas HSE team to implement standard processes in safety and support continuous improvement opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Drive Lightsource bp’s HSE processes and programs.
  • Provide health and safety technical support to assist the business in achieving and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and company policies.
  • Support the key deliverables and KPIs for the business as it relates to HSE strategy.
  • Provide coaching and leadership to ensure incidents are reported, conduct oversight activities to identify discrepancies, and drive correction actions as needed.
  • Maintain strong, effective communication with tier-one EPC and O&M contractors, Lightsource bp management and global HSE leadership.
  • Actively participate in HSE design risk reviews, pre-mobilization workshops, pre-commissioning workshops, post-construction reviews, and O&M turnover workshops with relevant stakeholders. Assess HSE impacts and recommend solutions.
  • Engage with Contractors to finalize risk assessments and HSE conformance documents.
  • Maintain operational knowledge of construction, maintenance, and electrical safety, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable standards, regulations, laws, and procedures.
  • Develop insights from safety metrics analysis and contractor self-verification to advise on emerging site risks and improvement opportunities.
Who we’re looking for
KNOWLEDGE
  • Read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations for application in the company.
  • Ability to gather HSE data, analyze, formulate recommendations, and prepare an executive summary in a self-sufficient manner.
  • Development of reports, business correspondence and technical procedures.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, customers, and the public.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of government HSE regulations, safety compliance, industrial hygiene, and basics of electrical generation/ transmission/ distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, related degree, or has equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Must have the ability to travel 50-70% of the time to active construction sites and operating solar plants with short notice, if necessary.
  • Intermediate PC skills with experience in Microsoft office products such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook are required.
  • HSSE Professional Certification (e.g., CSP, IH, CHST, OHST) preferred.
  • Midwest and East Coast candidates preferred.
EXPERIENCE
  • 5-7 years’ experience as a dedicated HSE professional managing HSE programs, conducting site audits and providing safety training preferably within a utilities grade renewable energy company.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in providing coaching and support to contractor personnel.
  • Experience with risk-based safety programs and delivery of health and safety performance plans.
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in health and safety performance and trend analysis.
  • Incident investigation experience.
  • Battery storage experience, preferred.

What We offer
  • US team members are entitled to medical benefits, life insurance, dental benefits, vision benefits and short- and long-term disability benefits. Lightsource bp pays for the first $800 of the monthly insurance premium. For staff members with dependents, Lightsource will cover 50% of the costs of covering dependents. The team member contributes the remainder of the premium, if any, through pre-tax payroll deduction.
  • Lightsource bp offers US team members immediate eligibility for a 401(k) plan, with a 3% nonelective employer contribution.
  • Our team members are eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, calculated based on corporate, team and individual objectives. Team members in the US may receive an additional 50% of their annual bonus in a “retention bank” as well, available for withdrawal after three years of bonus awards have accrued.
  • Lightsource bp currently observes the following 11 holidays in the US: New Years Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
  • US team members accrue 20 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually. All team members are also eligible for COVID-19 leave.
  • Team members in the US enjoy a hybrid work environment.
  • US team members receive a monthly personal phone bill reimbursement of up to $100 and a monthly commuter benefit of up to $150. Team members also receive one-time wellness and remote work allowances.
