We are looking for an experienced Global HV Technical Manager to work within the Global O&M Engineering team as part of LSbp to focus on the technical support and management of our HV electrical systems throughout the world. This individual will also be responsible for providing much broader technical advice and support to clients as well as key internal LSbp stakeholders.
The HV Technical Manager will be responsible for defining and driving business strategy primarily the HV function into the O&M business. Reporting to the Global Head of O&M Engineering and working closely with both the Engineering and Technical Teams as well as the O&M managers teams, he/she will be accountable for managing the delivery of services in accordance with LSbp electrical safety rules and to improve LSbp standard procedures across all jurisdictions.
He/she will also cooperate closely with the HSE departments to assess LSbp’s electrical safety policy, manuals and procedures as well as scrutinizing how the third-party O&M providers assess the competency of their employees from both a LV and HV perspective and the competency of any third-party companies that are to work on the LV or HV electrical system. He/she will also take active part in the incident escalation processes and the site onboarding process from the LV, HV and H&S perspective.
He/she will have knowledge of substation SCADA systems and will support the monitoring team in the integration of these systems into the company’s monitoring platform as well as be an active part in proposing projects for improving the life expectation of MV/HV and substation components, thus improving the plants availability and yield.
It is highly desirable that the Global HV Technical Manager has experience in liaising with the DNOs and that has confidence with the UK grid code, G99 regulation and grid connection request process. Knowledge of other EU/US/International grid codes and standards is welcome.
This individual will take pride in improving the performance of the assets through building collaborative and effective relationships with the local teams of O&M and Asset Managers and other key stakeholders across Asset Services. The role will be home based in the UK but will require the ability to travel abroad based on business needs.
This professional individual is required to closely work with the regional teams, HSE, Engineering, Monitoring and planning to support HV project works.
Creating the right ways of working and environment to enable the Engineering function to proactively generate new ideas, deliver defined business objectives and continuously improve.
Develop team strategies and apply good practice in supporting the development process by providing expertise and insight to the development of Solar products and specifications.
Liaise with portfolio clients as well as LSbp asset and project managers.
Be responsible for the creation, modification, and implementation of all electrical safety standards in coordination with the Global HSE team.
Be an integral part of a broader team establishing business cases for investment and providing comprehensive scopes and quotes for work packages.
Reviewing RAMS in conjunction with HSE and PMs.
Ensuring that all aspects of the client onboarding/FAC process across all the HV team are completed in a thorough, professional, and timely manner.
Liaise with DNOs and technical advisors for the upcoming projects.
Assess contractors skills, safety policies and adherence to the national electrical safety regulations
Knowledge & Experience
Working knowledge of Electrical Standards applying to Cables, Switchgears and Transformers
Working knowledge and/or experience in primary and secondary voltage injection tests
Experience of working in the HV Sector with a background in the design of new connections, general HV infrastructure or control protection.
Knowledge of H&S Regulations – ESQCR, EaW, HaSaW
Significant knowledge and understanding of the ENA Safety Rules are critical to this role
A strong working knowledge of mechanical and materials engineering principles and their relevance in electrical equipment failures.
Senior Authorised person / Control Engineer experience
Demonstrable experience in HV & LV substation design and commissioning
The figure shall be an Electrical or Mechanical engineer with more than 5 years of experience preferably in industrial Solar large-scale PV plants
It would be beneficial to have a working knowledge of technical, operational, and commercial aspects and documentation related to distributed generation, preferably solar.
Previous experience in a DNO or experience with the grid connection request process is highly desirable.
Being proficient in reading and interpreting contracts would be advantageous.
Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously.
Excellent communicator at all levels, particularly when translating technical information for non-technical teams.
Able to critically examine and question information from a variety of sources.
Ability to understand data analysis, report writing and presentation of findings and recommendations
Efficient in both verbal and written communication and possesses interpersonal skills to manage relationships at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
Strong organizing skills, proficiency in common computer applications and ability to manage own and others workload are essential.
Excellent client facing and contractors’ management skills
Degree or professional qualification preferably in relevant engineering discipline. (Electrical engineering would be of advantage). (Desirable)
HNC in Electrical Power Engineering
C&G High voltage operational safety
Professional qualification preferably in relevant engineering discipline e.g. CEng, IEng (Desirable)
NEBOSH certificate in construction health and safety or similar (Desirable)
CMI or ILM Level 5 in leadership and management or similar (Desirable)
Excellent relationship skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders/customers and suppliers through strong collaboration skills.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
Willing to travel as the business requires
