Purpose of the role

This opportunity supports the Commercial Energy Manager with the day-to-day management of the Lightsource bp and third-party owned Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolios for solar and battery assets located in Europe to ensure contract compliance from a commercial and compliance perspective. The role initially will be based on assets in the UK and Spain.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Lightsource bp and third-party owned Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolios;
  • Act as the primary interface for PPA providers and day-to-day contract management, such as notifying site outages & receiving electricity/energy certificate statements;
  • Providing supporting calculations for monthly revenue accruals, monthly cashflow management by means of getting invoices raised on time with the Accounts Receivable Manager and annual budget processes;
  • Managing the Ofgem Renewables and CHP Register for all UK assets under Asset Management. Collation and thorough checking of the data to be inputted into the system, diligent transfer of resultant energy certificates, reporting, invoicing and updating information as required (Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin, Renewables Obligation and Feed-in Tariff);
  • Supporting with the collation of information required for regulator compliance audits;
  • Reviewing energy output data, identify and report performance issues as well as meter and data problems;
  • Maintaining logs of energy certificate transfers and subsidy claims, outages, metering issues, and managing those with the relevant parties (e.g. Meter Operator, Data Collector & Data Aggregator and Operations and Maintenance providers) to resolution;
  • Developing and maintaining a compliance calendar to manage and monitor compliance;
  • Ensuring that SharePoint, Lightsource bp’s document management system, is kept up-to-date with relevant files on a weekly basis.
  • Managing the portfolio Import Supply Agreements and support the Commercial Energy Manager with re-tendering (import or export) where applicable;
  • Each member of the Asset Management team has the opportunity to attend a handful of solar farms each year, including the Commercial Energy Associate, to support cross-company functions such as Health & Safety and Operations & Maintenance. Therefore, this opportunity will be given to you as well.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understanding of the GB Electricity and Energy Markets and/or a renewable energy background is preferred, as is the use of energy management platforms, but these are not pre-requisites.

Work Skills

  • Solid understanding of the Microsoft 365 suite of applications, critically Microsoft Excel, which are essential to carrying out the analytical and reporting requirements of the role, including the following formulas standalone and in combination (but not limited to): IF, AND, OR, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP, INDEX, MATCH, SUM, SUMPRODUCT, SUBSTITUTE, MAX, MIN, CONCATENATE, PIVOTTABLE, IFERROR. Microsoft Excel understanding should also extend to the use of managing multiple worksheets across numerous files, sorting, filtering, conditional formatting, utilising the power queries function to extract data from multiple data files of the same type, which is critical for time management, and occasionally producing visual charts.
  • Strong literacy in English. Literacy in another European language may also be advantageous and may be an enabler for further scope for growth as we expand in different jurisdictions.
  • A full clean UK driving licence may also be advantageous, given the previously mentioned opportunity to attend site visits.

General Skills/Attributes

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage time well are critical.
  • Given the number of projects managed by Asset Management, there is quite a lot of administrative work that comes with the role, meaning a detail orientated persona is required.
  • The ability to multi-task in support of other departmental requirements whilst diligently meeting Monthly deadlines with accuracy and consistency is critical. The ideal candidate will have a willingness to develop skill sets as they will receive the required support and training from the Commercial Energy Manager to carry out their duties and responsibilities.

Experience Required

  • Some experience in a back-office / accounts function in an energy or renewable sector would be an advantage but we would consider applicants with an interest in the renewable sector who are happy to work hard in a vibrant developing business.

Education and Qualifications

  • We are open to a broad range of experiences and degree qualifications for this role. A degree qualification is not a pre-requisite.
