Renewable Energy Specialist (Part-Time) - Public Sector (Hybrid)
Location: Dublin or Cork
Salary: €75,448 pro rata
Contract: 18-month fixed term
Hours: 21 hours per week (3 days – Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday)
Annual Leave: 16.5 days per year (pro-rata)

We are partnering with a leading public sector body to recruit a Renewable Energy Specialist (Part-Time) to join their Research, Innovation and Electricity team.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon energy system, working with policy makers, researchers, and industry stakeholders to support the development of renewable electricity programmes and national climate initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support government departments in delivering actions under the Climate Action Plan, particularly in relation to renewable energy and spatial planning frameworks.
- Provide evidence-based analysis and expert advice to inform renewable energy policy and market development.
- Support the development and implementation of renewable energy legislation and policy, including European directives.
- Commission and manage research projects and technical analysis through public procurement processes.
- Prepare reports and briefings for policymakers, government bodies, and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to maintaining renewable electricity data resources and project databases.
- Engage with national and international researchers and experts to identify best practices in renewable energy planning.
- Support reporting obligations to the European Commission.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
About You - Essential Requirements
- Degree (minimum NFQ Level 7) in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Natural Science, Planning, or a related discipline.
- Minimum four years’ relevant experience in renewable energy, particularly in spatial planning or sustainable energy policy implementation.
- Experience applying environmental analysis frameworks such as Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), ESG, or Lifecycle Carbon Analysis (LCA).
- Proven experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and managing projects involving a variety of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, report writing, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver work independently in a complex, evolving environment.
About You - Desirable Requirements
- Experience working within the public sector.
- A postgraduate qualification (Masters or PhD) in a relevant field.
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
- Experience leading teams or delivering high-profile research or policy projects.
- Experience delivering public interest research or projects.
- Irish language proficiency.
