Finance & Accounting Lead
Lenol is a fast-growing, venture-backed clean energy company building the infrastructure to make productive energy more accessible and affordable for African businesses.
We finance, deploy, and operate clean energy assets that help micro and small businesses increase productivity and income without the burden of upfront ownership costs.
Our operations span two core business lines:
- Electric Mobility: Financing electric motorcycles through lease-to-own arrangements, enabling commercial riders to transition to more affordable and sustainable transportation.
- Power Shops: A growing network of solar-powered battery rental hubs providing portable energy to small businesses, traders, and artisans who need reliable electricity to operate.
Today, Lenol operates a growing fleet of electric motorcycles and a network of Power Shops serving hundreds of small businesses in Lagos.
We are backed by leading international investors and climate finance organisations, including Katapult, EDP, ClimaFii Alliance, and Savant, among others.
With significant growth capital being mobilised, we are entering an exciting phase of expansion, scaling our asset base, growing our operational footprint, and investing in the systems and talent required to build a much larger business.
About the RoleWe are looking for a capable, hands-on Finance & Accounting Lead to establish and manage Lenol's accounting and financial reporting function.
This is our first dedicated in-house accounting hire. You will be joining at an important stage of our growth, with the opportunity to build the finance function from the ground up.
You'll be responsible for putting proper accounting systems, processes, controls, and reporting structures in place while managing the day-to-day accounting activities of the business.
We need someone who is equally comfortable reconciling transactions and maintaining accurate books as they are preparing financial statements, analysing business performance, and supporting investor reporting.
This is a hands-on role with considerable responsibility and direct exposure to the founding team.
Key Responsibilities1. Establish the Accounting Function
- Set up and maintain the company's accounting system, chart of accounts, financial records, and reporting processes.
- Develop and implement bookkeeping procedures, reconciliation processes, financial controls, and documentation standards.
- Organise and reconcile historical financial records, establishing reliable opening balances and accounting records.
- Implement appropriate accounting treatment and tracking for our financed assets, including electric motorcycles, batteries, and solar infrastructure.
- Build processes that can scale with increasing transaction volumes, assets, and business operations.
2. Day-to-Day Accounting & Financial Management
- Manage bookkeeping and accurate recording of all financial transactions.
- Reconcile daily payments from customers, bank accounts, payment platforms, and internal operational systems.
- Track accounts receivable, outstanding customer payments, payables, expenses, and asset records.
- Prepare monthly management accounts, profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Manage financial documentation, expense tracking, payroll accounting, and statutory obligations.
- Support budgeting, cash flow management, and financial forecasting.
3. Financial Reporting, Analysis & Investor Readiness
- Develop monthly financial reporting packs for management and investors.
- Track and analyse key business metrics, including revenue, margins, unit economics, collections performance, asset utilisation, and profitability by business line.
- Work with operational teams to reconcile financial records with asset deployment, repayments, rentals, and other operational data.
- Support financial modelling, budgeting, and capital allocation decisions.
- Prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents for external audits, investor due diligence, and financial reviews.
- Ensure financial records remain accurate, organised, and audit-ready.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 4–6 years of relevant accounting and finance experience, preferably including experience in a growing business.
- ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
- Strong practical experience in bookkeeping, bank reconciliation, financial statements, and month-end closing.
- Demonstrable experience setting up, improving, or independently managing accounting systems and processes.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, or similar platforms.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including financial analysis and reporting.
- Sound knowledge of Nigerian tax requirements, financial reporting standards, and accounting controls.
- Experience preparing accounts for external audits or financial due diligence.
- Familiarity with management reporting, financial KPIs, and basic financial modelling.
- Experience in a startup, fintech, leasing, asset financing, or transaction-heavy business is an advantage.
We're particularly interested in someone who:
- Has previously helped establish or professionalise an accounting function, rather than simply working within an already established finance department.
- Is comfortable getting into the details, reconciling transactions, cleaning up records, and building processes.
- Understands that good accounting is not just about compliance but also about providing reliable information for business decisions.
- Can translate financial data into meaningful insights for management and investors.
- Is organised, resourceful, proactive, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Is excited about the opportunity to grow professionally alongside a rapidly expanding company.
This is an opportunity to build and own the accounting function at a venture-backed company entering a significant growth phase.
You'll work closely with the founders, gain exposure to international investors and financing partners, and help establish the financial systems that will support our next stage of expansion.
More importantly, you'll be contributing to a business that is making clean energy more accessible to the entrepreneurs and small businesses driving Africa's economy.
