Finance & Accounting Associate
About Lenol
Lenol is a venture-backed clean energy startup building a new way for African businesses to access productive-use energy assets.
We finance, deploy, and operate electric motorcycles through lease-to-own arrangements and solar-powered Power Shops that provide portable battery rentals to small businesses, traders, and artisans.
Our business is built around a simple idea: entrepreneurs should be able to access the energy and mobility assets they need to earn more without having to purchase them upfront.
Backed by international investors and climate finance partners including Katapult, EDP, ClimaFii Alliance, and Savant, Lenol is entering a significant growth phase. We are scaling our operations, deploying new assets, expanding into new markets, and building the internal systems required to support that growth.
The OpportunityWe're looking for a Finance & Accounting Associate to help us build our finance function from the ground up.
This is our first dedicated in-house accounting hire, and we're looking for someone who enjoys the challenge of building systems rather than simply operating within established ones.
While we have existing transaction records, payment systems, and financial information, we need someone to bring these together into a structured, reliable, and scalable accounting function.
Your first major responsibility will be to establish our accounting system, policies, procedures, and financial controls, including organising historical records and putting reliable reporting processes in place.
Beyond that, you'll own day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and audit preparation, while helping us understand the financial performance of the business.
This is a hands-on role in a startup environment. You'll work closely with the founders, take real ownership, and have the opportunity to shape how the finance function develops as we grow.
What You'll Do1. Build Our Accounting Systems & Processes
- Set up and configure our accounting software, chart of accounts, and bookkeeping structure.
- Develop practical accounting policies, standard operating procedures, internal controls, and approval processes.
- Review, clean up, and reconcile historical financial records.
- Establish consistent processes for recording revenue, expenses, receivables, liabilities, and fixed assets.
- Design efficient month-end closing, reconciliation, and financial reporting workflows.
- Identify opportunities to automate accounting processes and integrate financial information from our operational systems.
2. Own Day-to-Day Accounting
- Manage bookkeeping and accurate transaction recording.
- Reconcile daily collections across banks, payment platforms, and internal systems.
- Track customer repayments, battery rental income, outstanding receivables, expenses, and payables.
- Maintain fixed asset registers for motorcycles, batteries, solar equipment, and other company assets.
- Prepare monthly profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and management accounts.
- Support tax compliance, payroll accounting, and statutory reporting.
- Maintain accurate, well-organised, audit-ready financial records.
3. Support Financial Analysis & Investor Reporting
- Develop clear monthly financial reporting packs for management and investors.
- Monitor revenue, collections, margins, unit economics, asset utilisation, and other key business metrics.
- Analyse financial performance across our mobility and battery rental operations.
- Support budgeting, cash flow forecasting, and financial modelling.
- Prepare financial schedules and documentation for external audits, investor due diligence, and funding partners.
- Help the founders make better decisions using reliable financial and operational data.
- 3–5 years of practical accounting or finance experience, ideally in a startup, SME, or fast-growing business.
- Demonstrable experience setting up an accounting system, developing accounting policies, or building financial processes from scratch. This is our most important requirement.
- Strong practical bookkeeping, reconciliation, and financial statement preparation skills.
- Experience using accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, or similar.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Understanding of Nigerian accounting standards, taxation, and financial compliance.
- Experience organising historical financial records and preparing accounts for audits.
- Ability to analyse financial data and translate it into useful business insights.
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. ACA/ACCA is an advantage but not mandatory.
Experience in fintech, asset financing, leasing, or other transaction-heavy businesses would be an advantage.
You'll Be a Great Fit If...- You've worked in a startup or small business where you had to create structure rather than inherit it.
- You've personally implemented accounting software, developed bookkeeping processes, or introduced financial controls.
- You're comfortable rolling up your sleeves, cleaning up records, and figuring things out independently.
- You understand the pace, ambiguity, and resource constraints of an early-stage startup.
- You're proactive, resourceful, detail-oriented, and comfortable using technology to make financial processes more efficient.
- You enjoy both the technical side of accounting and understanding the commercial drivers behind the numbers.
- You're looking for an opportunity to take meaningful ownership and grow with a scaling company.
You'll be joining at an important inflection point, as we transition from early traction into rapid growth.
This is an opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up, work directly with founders, gain exposure to international investors, and help shape the financial infrastructure of a growing clean energy company.
You'll have considerable responsibility, autonomy, and room to grow as the business expands.
