We're seeking a Compliance Counsel to support the legal and regulatory integrity of the organization's U.S. operations. This role is ideal for a proactive legal professional with deep knowledge of trade law, regulatory frameworks, and industrial policy. You\'ll work cross-functionally with legal, operations, logistics, and government affairs teams to ensure compliance across a rapidly evolving landscape. Regulatory Intelligence & Legislative Tracking: Monitor and analyze federal and state developments impacting EV battery manufacturing and energy storage; deliver timely updates and risk assessments to legal and business leaders; collaborate with government affairs and external advisors to interpret regulatory shifts from agencies like DOE, EPA, DOT, FERC, CBP, and USTR. Trade Compliance & Tariff Strategy: Advise on import/export regulations including EAR, ITAR, and CBP customs rules; support tariff classification, country-of-origin analysis, and trade remedy interpretation (e.g., assist with license applications, disclosures, and enforcement proceedings. Compliance Program Development: Help build and refine U.S. compliance policies aligned with global standards; lead internal training on anti-corruption, sanctions, ESG, and trade compliance; conduct reviews and investigations in partnership with audit and risk teams; provide guidance on antitrust issues including pricing, distribution, and joint ventures. Cross-Functional Legal Support: Advise on compliance matters intersecting with contracts, procurement, logistics, and regulatory filings; coordinate with external counsel and global legal teams to ensure consistent compliance practices. D. from an accredited law school; S. state (eligible for Michigan in-house counsel rules). Experience: 5+ years of legal practice, with 3+ years focused on compliance, trade, or regulatory law. In-house experience preferred. Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with energy, automotive, or manufacturing sectors; S. trade laws and industrial policy (e.g., able to translate complex legal concepts into practical guidance. Bonus Qualifications: Mandarin language skills (written or spoken) are a plus. Background supporting companies through regulatory transformation or rapid growth.
