LandYield is a U.S.-based forest carbon project developer committed to connecting small private landowners with carbon markets, providing revenue to rural landowners and contributing to climate change mitigation through high quality forest carbon removal projects. Through LandYield’s proprietary platform, landowners can remotely design projects and seamlessly enroll their properties. LandYield has been operational in 26 states across the Eastern US for over 2 years. LandYield is scaling rapidly and building a strong operational team to support future growth.
Job Description
The newly created Carbon Landman position will work directly with landowners to guide them through the submission and enrollment process for LandYield’s forest carbon program. Primary duties involve proactive outreach and relationship building—calling new and existing landowner contacts to raise awareness, educating landowners regarding LandYield’s program offerings, addressing landowner questions, and providing technical guidance. Relationships a vitally important to building our client base with quality projects that will stand up to audits and intense scrutiny. To that end, this position will be expected to travel throughout our service area to meet with landowners in person and represent Landyield at various industry conference and events. These efforts will be in coordination and support of LY’s Sales and Marketing Manager.
The ideal candidate will have experience and/or education in land rights (timber, mineral, water, other) forest management, outreach and sales, forest carbon programs within the LandYield service area. As part of a small, growing team, the position requires flexibility, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to take on a variety of responsibilities in support of LandYield’s mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Landowner Outreach/Recruitment Support
- Support landowner recruitment efforts through personal communication (email, phone calls, in-person visits) to inform and educate around program requirements, answer questions, and help landowners through the enrollment process
- Work with sales and GIS team to identify and contact high potential landowners
- Support and maintain the landowner sales pipeline
- Manage and grow relationships with consulting foresters and firms across LandYield service area
- Represent LandYield at landowner and forestry conferences across the Midwest and Eastern US
Project Submission and Contracting Support
- Support landowners with project submissions as needed, including answering questions about the LandYield platform
- Communicate with landowners over phone and email to help them complete sites and submit needed documents
- Follow up with landowners to answer questions about the LandYield program and move them through the contracting process.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Project Due Diligence
- Review submitted forest carbon project sites for program eligibility
- Review submitted landowner documents including, deeds, tax bills, and easements according to approved SOPs
- Perform title and deed searches as needed to confirm ownership and program eligibility
- Acquire deeds from county courthouses when necessary or directed
- Clearly communicate site updates and requests to landowner both over email and phone
A successful candidate will be:
- Passionate and enthusiastic about engaging with landowners, learning about their property, and building trust in the LandYield program through personal interactions
- Managing project submissions with care, attention to detail, and solution-oriented mindset
- Ongoing, open communication and coordination with team
- Communicating clearly with landowners about project submissions and ongoing reviews
- Build a network of consulting foresters and serve as their primary point of contact
- Bringing a positive, solution-oriented mindset to the team
Required Qualifications:
- 3-5 years experience working as a Landman or in a sales role for a forestry or carbon firm or similar programs or leases for oil and gas, renewable energy, cell towers, etc.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with landowners by phone, email, and in person.
- Demonstrated adaptability and team-oriented mindset, with the willingness to support outreach, enrollment, and operational tasks in a dynamic, fast-growing organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in forests across LandYield’s service area
- Familiarity with carbon markets, conservation programs, or natural resource policy in the Eastern or Midwestern U.S.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple landowner accounts and track enrollment progress.
